Quote:

The U.S. military launched approximately 50 cruise missiles at a Syrian military airfield late on Thursday, in the first direct American assault on the government of President Bashar al-Assad since that country?s civil war began six years ago.

The operation, which the Trump administration authorized in retaliation for a chemical attack killing scores of civilians this week, dramatically expands U.S. military involvement in Syria and exposes the United States to heightened risk of direct confrontation with Russia and Iran, both backing Assad in his attempt to crush his opposition.

The attack may put hundreds of American troops now stationed in Syria in greater danger. They are advising local forces in advance of a major assault on the Syrian city of Raqqa, the Islamic State?s de facto capital.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is going to Moscow next week still?
Putin is thrilled I am sure.

While we are a little uninformed of whats going on at this point.. One thing you have to remember, is even Obama himself stated very clearly that a chemical attack by Syria would be the red line crossed.

To be fair, IMO Obama was a bit weak on his "red line" because Syria did in fact use chemical weapons previously and Obama did not act on it. Obviously, Russia complicated things but in the end Assad previously used chemical weapons and we did nothing. They crossed the red line and we did nothing.

I think it's too early to say one way or another if this was the right call or not. I dislike Trump and I do think he's a fool, but we can't just say "don't use chemical weapons or else" then they do it and we do nothing which in turn makes our warning meaningless.

Syria "chemical weapon" attack proven by autopsies Turkey says as Trump blames Assad regime - CBS News

Turkey has already done autopsies on some of the bodies.. It was Sarin gas..

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said Thursday that autopsy results on victims of the attack in Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib province, confirmed that a “chemical weapon was used.” A statement later Thursday by Turkey’s health ministry said the autopsy results pointed to an attack with the deadly nerve agent Sarin. Chemical weapons experts who spoke to CBS News after seeing video of the victims also said it appeared to be a likely Sarin gas attack.

Autopsies on three of those who lost their lives were carried out at a Turkish forensics institute in Adana, according to local media. The victims died after being ferried across the border for treatment with around thirty others.

Here is what Russia says :

Russia offered another explanation. A spokesman for its Defense Ministry, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, said Syrian warplanes had struck an insurgent storehouse containing toxic substances to be used in chemical weapons.

USA-Iraq:

A coalition airstrike on an ISIS truck laden with explosives led to the deaths of dozens of civilians in Mosul, a senior Iraqi military officer said Sunday.

The US-led coalition has acknowledged hitting an explosives-laden vehicle in a March 17 strike; the coalition said separately that a review of its airstrikes indicated one strike occurred that day in the area where the casualties were reported.

You're not thinking straight Assad has been making chemical weapons for years, admitted to it, then promised to stop, Turkey and Assad both supply ISIS with sarin gas and the supply routes through Syria to Iraq are well known.

THE HAGUE ? Syria is one of just five countries that have not signed a global treaty banning chemical weapons. Israel and Myanmar have signed the convention but not ratified it, while Angola, Egypt, North Korea, South Sudan and Syria have done neither.

Notice they have no proof they bombed a weapons cache and their "excuse" has already been debunked. Honestly, it's extremely easy to verify their claims, when you bomb a target there is shit left over.. Where is their video from the bombings? Where is their satellite images to show us how they figured out this random target was a weapons factory...oh they don't have that kinda stuff, they just put some goon in front of a camera.. lol

Russians are dumb.. they lie about stuff that is extremely easy to prove is a lie. Just like when they had 20 different lies about shooting down the civilian airliner in Ukraine..

Soon as their weapons factory bombing lie is proven to be BS (it already has happened) they will then come up with a new lie..

C H R I S 04-06-2017 08:32 PM

I actually think this is the first thing Trump has done right. While he's at it he should send a nice big missile up baby killer Assad's ass. He took out a few Russian's while he was at it, that may complicate his bromance with Putin.

?No contacts were made with Moscow, with President Putin,? Tillerson told reporters during a briefing with National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster at Trump?s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

He blamed the Russians for failing to prevent the use of chemical weapons in Syria, calling them ?complicit or incompetent,? which is why the United States took action.

According to the Pentagon, Russian ground forces in the area were given a ?deconfliction? notice prior to the attack.

Tillerson said that President Trump believed acting in this way against the Syrian regime was ?appropriate? and proportional? and that the response from American allies was ?overwhelmingly supportive.?

so obvious.

Rochard 04-06-2017 09:41 PM

I have mixed feelings about this.

While I love to see the United States military flex it's muscles, I am concerned that this can grow out of hand quickly. This is not a case of the United States military against the Syrian military. There are multiple other parties involved - ISIS, the Russians, The Iranians, and a dozen other "rebel" groups - some of which are not fond of the United States.

The past the United States and Russia has fought each other through proxy wars. This is vastly different. This is not the United States secretly arming rebels to take on Assad, but instead a direct attack by the United States military on a Syrian military base where their are Russians and Iranians are stationed.

The worst part is Trump doesn't have a plan at all. Forty-eight hours ago he was telling the world there was no reason to remove Assad, now we are bombing him. We all know there is no plan going forward.

What is most interesting to me is the US forces in the region. There are a few thousand US Marines on the ground in Syria, and also the 24th MEU is currently in the MED. Might get very interesting quickly.

I do not believe that Assad gassed those people, but if Trump wants to use that as the narrative to justify some kind of action then so be it. Obama and Hillary's handling of this conflict ranks among the worst in US history. Trump can end this.

BAGHDAD ? An airstrike targeting Islamic State militants in the Iraqi city of Mosul that witnesses say killed at least 100 people was in fact launched by the U.S. military, American officials said Saturday.

U.S. officials did not confirm the reports of civilian casualties but opened an investigation. In the days following the March 17 airstrike, U.S. officials had said they were unsure whether American forces were behind the attack.

The statement issued by the U.S.-led coalition said the airstrike had been requested by Iraqi security forces to target IS fighters and equipment ?at the location corresponding to allegations of civilian casualties.? U.S.-backed government troops were fighting IS forces in that area of western Mosul, the statement said.

Mosul attack with high civilian casualties linked to U.S. military
So, if you apply the same logic, Russia could be outraged of the massacre and decide to send a message , hence bomb aù US used airfield in Iraq, from where those planes took off ....
.. or it is only a one way street ???

PS: stop with the French , you americans always say that they are pussies, so make up your mind!

You are jumping to conclusions here.

There is no doubt in my mind Assad dropped these chemical weapons. However, Assad (and the Russians) are claiming this air raid exploded chemical weapons already on the ground. Although we have a "best guess", shouldn't we be sure before we drop bombs on another country?
