Failed 49+ hour WP migration

So bummed out. Been up for 49+ hours and we couldn't figure out how to migrate Wordpress instance.

Fully functional pre-prod/test Wordpress instance.

I've we can't figure this out today - we're soooooooo fucked.

Ferus 04-07-2017 08:58 AM

uhmm... I can't answer that question.

It could be a MySQL version issue. Source has MySQL 5.6.33, the target has MySQL 5.5.54.

WooCommerce isn't loading things properly after the migration. Right after the migration I noticed that the Avada settings were not migrated and some other settings were missing. This surprised me... copy...

We have migrated literally hundreds of WordPress installations. Many coming from very "odd" server setups. We also have a full-time programmer on staff that is very handy in bizarre situations like this.

Feel free to reach out. We've got a freshly installed SSD box with your name on it.

should be farely straight forward, i would use the replicator plugin, which will do it with ease

I would always migrate to same version DB and Framework. But what you said about uploading could sound like a security/folder rights issue. Are you sure the right "Owner" is set on the folder structure?

Validus 04-07-2017 09:08 AM

Thanks.

So far only the hosting co has been working on the migration.

I'll give the LiquidWeb team a try, just because that has been plan B since yesterday.

They fail... I'll certainly need some more coffee and help.

I am not sure. But we did have quite a few permission errors (that the hosting company resolved). So I wouldn't be surprised if you're correct. Or it could be server configuration too, the source is nginx and target... I don't think uses nginx.

I always have "apache" as owner of the root (dont know if its best practice, since im a Microsoft Server man). So I run this on my web root folder, when setting up a new slice
Code:

chown -R apache /home/youruser/domains/domain.com/public_html/

Thanks a bunch!

At this point, I'm not touching the migration again. Also, I really need the professionals to handle this - it's no good to have me copy paste random internet bits :)

I just moved my important stuff over to vacares from amerinoc (who back in the day was the best around) after my server crashed and almost lost everything. I never dealt with a better tech than Mike, it sucks I had to move hosting companies to keep the good service.

I hear you.

This feels like a high school breakup to me.

I should get some counselling after this is done.

freecartoonporn 04-07-2017 10:04 AM

move files
move DB
set settings like db info and domain name.

Whats a good plugin to restore wordpress backup

Paz 04-07-2017 11:38 AM

My guess is that you moved from staging or the domain length changed (ie the number of letters was different). WordPress widgets are domain length sensitive ie if you change the domain length the widgets. You can't edit the widgets easily with a text editor but there are WP migration plugins eg WP Migrate.

You're probably right, at least partially.

we have...

www. <- Production
beta. <- Pre-Prod to Production
alpha. <- Major version pre-prod/dev

and we have a subdirectory WP instance for our e-commerce system.

This thread explains why I left my career as a computer programmer to photograph naked women for a living.
