Real Men
 

Anyone have any idea what that phrase even means? Been a bugbear of mine for ages... real men do xyz.... it takes a real man to blahblahblah.... says who? Who decided what a 'real man' is, who decides what 'real men' do or don't do, and the obvious question - is there a list?

guessing it's one of those phrases that means whatever the speaker intends it to mean, very much linked to culture and values.

I dunno, to me that phrase means a dude who acts like an adult, is trustworthy and honest, handles his ish without drama or turning into a pissy little bitch, elevates himself without diminishing others and isn't afraid to experience new situations, ideas and people. I think 'real women' display similar characteristics, not to be confused with REAL Women who actually really don't like women.

I figure we're all a man, and a son. In any given situation you're either giving knowledge or accepting it, being supported or supporting.

A real man knows how to fuck, and get fucked, it's really that simple.

You'll know what a real man is the moment you meet a guy that is absolutely the opposite.

With that said the problem is today's youth have never had a "great depression" or a "great war" or even a Vietnam draft. Most young men have no concept of what it is to be a man because they've never had to endure... rise to the challenge... or even test themselves and their resolve.

From what I see of this generation I can honestly say that in the past our women were better men than most of today's young men.

I absolutely agree. Being a real man doesn't mean to do something specific or have some specific qualities. You know you are a real man when you succeeded to cope with things only real man can cope with. The same applies to women

didn't we have the phrase for those people already though, ie you're either a cunt, or you are solid? Isn't it a whiny, pissy 'non-real' thing to say "you aren't a REAL man" instead of "you're being a cunt"?

It is decided by bigger part of the society.

For example if you say "real man do not run away from problems, but face them" you will get agreement from majority of society.

If you say "real man should wax his legs" you will get agreement from minority of society.

Thus making the first phrase "true".

But there is no actual list because there is nothing that 100% of society would agree on.

It is fluid list. You say something, think if majority of society would agree and that is "true" to what real man does :)

That is how it works.

There can only be subjective answers to what a real man is!
You can really give a definition!
But, from my point of view, a real man sticks to his principles (healthy principles)!

There will always be physical elements to being a man. When push comes to shove a real man needs to be able to punch someone in the mouth without hurting his hand. Plus he needs to be able to do things with his hands like change the oil in his car, put up a shelf, fix things, etc.
