thanks

i miseed to mention, that torrenting should be allowed too,
i read some VPNs does not allow torrenting and p2p traffic.

thanks.

same, configured at the router level ( DD-WRT ) .

jscott 04-13-2017 06:30 AM

ppl recommended them to me long time ago.... only recently i registered with them. if you like i can show you scrn prints of their screen where it shows all the info

shows where you're located, and where you're connected from.... choice of tons of places, all over USA, Turkey, spain, ukraine, france, canada, brazil, all over the place.

and ya, if you seen their plans already you can see they're cheap as hell.

They are the KeepSolid company, seem to be quite big and been around for a while, i cant find info how long theyve been around at first glance tho.

jscott 04-13-2017 06:35 AM

i never realized this but you have to choose certain connections for torrents, so yes can use torrents, but not on all of their connections

Cheap is cheap...

https://stacksocial.com/ has some nice VPN deal. Search "VPN" in the site!

CjTheFish 04-17-2017 07:20 AM

Generally use Cyberghost, however I don't use a VPN for day to day use. Just when I need to get around something. It's free if you don't mind waiting in a brief line to use the service, otherwise you can pay to bypass it.

jbvryant 04-17-2017 08:22 AM

HSS, Windscribe or Cyberghost

If you know a little bit of command line and know how to configure openvpn on windows or use tunnelblick on mac, just use this simple command on a service like digitalocean, linode, or vultr

https://github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install

I don't really have a need to use a vpn but when I go to a public wifi at a store or coffee shop it is wise to have one. People can have programs that intercept all your traffic, I know a guy that showed me it once.

The one time I was a victim of credit card fraud (beyond getting my card banged) it was because I made a purchase on a network that was compromised. Somewhere on the bookstores main network there was a traffic sniffer and it started billing over $1500 on the card. Luckily I gotten it taken care of immediately.

A quick shot vpn like that on a ssd instance is you can get rid of your logs as soon as you delete your droplet.
It's good enough too where if you download a torrent, for whatever reason, and get stung it goes back to the hosting service and not your ISP. It's something that's only happened once.

But on open public connections I strongly suggest encryption as there are people that sit in coffee shops and not all of them are innocent.

Also with https://github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install you can run it as long as several minutes to just hours. Vultr had $2.50 plans but I think they are all out right now.

Setting one up once you know what you are doing takes 3-4 minutes. No need for discounts or even paying for a month at a time.
Like I said don't do anything criminal on it, I know digitalocean keeps track of when you held an IP indefinitely.

The open one :winkwink:

dillfly2000 04-17-2017 09:39 PM

ExpressVPN

avx 04-18-2017 12:39 AM

Windscribe. I used StrongVPN in the past, it was ok but a bit slow.

shiraz9944 04-18-2017 04:54 AM

VyprVPN by goldenfrog is the fastest I've ever used, I torrent all the time and they've said nothing in two years. Also new but most people don't about is protonmail the encrypted email service out of switzerland by the CERN people, they have a VPN now called ProtonVPN, it is the tits! Super fast, can do double hop instead of one if you want and they have a connection that goes to a server then to TOR if you want. Really impressive stuff they have. You can go securecore, which is double hop, exits in HK then use Tor on your computer and you are thru like 8 hops and no slowdown. Or just use one of the US nodes and it's even faster. ExpressVPN is good speeds and easy nice setup and interface they are good too but just didn't have the super options proton does. I also got one from Torguard, they aren't the best speed but they offer dedicated IP's if you want one so you can not get messed with by your bank or other accounts that don't like multiple IP's. Also can lock down your server to your home and the dedi IP which is nice :)
