China & the Euros in talks to build a moon base..

China and Europe to build a base on the moon and launch other projects into space | The Independent

Pretty cool, I've always thought the moon should be our primary focus before Mars. Glas at least someone wants to go that route.

Hopefully they send you straight up to it, op.

woj 04-26-2017 01:40 PM

they should start with landing on the moon first, maybe they can team up with Russia on that, and tag along on their first manned moon mission scheduled for 2040... :error :1orglaugh

NatalieK 04-26-2017 01:49 PM

cool story! Good to know weŽll actually be on the moon on permanent basis...

do you possibly remember who braught US first to the moon?
google a bit on the name "wernher von braun"

google a bit on "sputnik" and watch the pictures of all exploding US tries to find the way up while the russians already have been in the earth orbit.

google a bit about juri gagarin and tell me why he havenŽt met an american in space.

and after that tell me the reason for your arrogance.

"Will" does not mean "do". It will be real cool when it will be implemented in practice.

Hint: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_9. And a bad news: von Braun is dead and there is no road to the Moon for you anymore :( You have to use Russian rockets even to get to the Earth's orbit. That's so pathetic, isn't it? ;)

isn't it pretty obvious that before any country can "build a human outpost on the moon", they would first need technology to send humans there? I can think of only one country that has accomplished this feat so far, and it's not the one mentioned in the article you posted...

They know how to do it even if they haven't done it before. There hasn't been much need to go back to the moon which is probably why they haven't bothered in the past. But since they recently found water there, and going to mars and mining asteroids are closer to reality than ever before, maybe establishing a base on the moon is less far-fetched than it used to be.

i like moon

Paul Markham 04-27-2017 01:45 AM

What's on the Moon that's so important we need a manned base there?

Other than the research in getting there puts China in front of the Technology race.

jbvryant 04-27-2017 08:58 AM

Watch out or the Chinese will make the moon behind their Nine dash line and claim it as their territory. They will charge us all by just looking into it.

Rochard 04-27-2017 09:08 AM

All of us should be going to the moon and settling there, establishing a full time colony there. We have benefited so many times over from exploring space. We will run out of space on earth eventually. We will also run out of resources too.

I am not so sure about this. There are a handful of things to know about space exploration, getting there, etc, and most of this information is common knowledge at this point. But physically doing it is another matter. Going to the moon is a long term commitment, and establishing a base there is another long term commitment. Any major world power could do it, but it would take some serious effort.

I hope this happens. I would love to see it in our lifetime.

Actually, there is plenty of space on earth and we have lots of resources, we just have to stop destroying and wasting them both..

We shouldn't be irrigating desert fields to grow crops in areas that routinely suffer from drought. Hydroponics combined with recycled water is the way we need to go. We also need to put an end to just letting people plop up a farm anywhere they want and demanding water to irrigate it..

I was in New Mexico and as you drive into Roswell, the 1st thing you see coming from the south isn't a crashed alien space craft..no it's some ass hole who decided to grow fucking walnut trees in the fucking desert and he waters the fuck out of them in the middle of the day to keep them alive..

Complete utter waste of water because "I can do what I damn well want with ma land!" attitude..

We don't need massive acreage to grow food crops anymore wasting millions of gallons of water to grow them.. We can grow crops locally in warehouse setting using hydroponics and vertical placement. This allows you to grow the crops year round at any location instead of just certain seasons. This is the exact same way they will grow crops on Mars or the Moon..

Instead of large acreage farms we need to make the switch to localized smaller growing operations, much like they do with legal MJ as example..

The only thing I have noticed when I've been to Roswell is a horde of jobless Latino guys sitting over here and there. And they don't look too friendly, BTW...

Caitlin BongaCash 04-27-2017 02:03 PM

I think many would, it sounds exciting indeed
