How long does it take for something to enter the public domain?

I don't want to rip off the 3 stooges and get sued. So I'm wondering when a movie would enter the public domain and be free to use.

All motion pictures released before 1923 are considered to be in the public domain.

Almost nothing created these days if the estate takes an interest after death.
Also if a corporation owns all rights then you can forget it.

Focus on "fair use" rather than public domain.

Fair use is never allow me to rip something off as much as I want to.

Yeah, that's why it's fair.

depends on the country, also you'll find that the soundtrack (or at least parts of it) is often still in copywrite.

If you were to do a parity you would be fine! You're allowed to parody and profit off anything, but it has to be a clear parody and not an exact rip off.

No I actually want to outright rip it off. A parody actually requires porn talent that can act and if they can act then I might have to pay them more.
