Cpanel access or FTP access ...... Why they keep wanting Cpanel access those fuckers LOL

Well this is what's happening and i would like to know what's your opinion about this.

Is there any reason why i should give my CPANEL access to a stranger selling me his website/ online business. :error

Told him if he cant use ftp to load file and set up a website we will have a problem.

kind off Shady fuck LOL :error:error

But what they are trying to do ? I know many bad things can be done but what is their Target on a server ?

Thanks folks

mineistaken 04-28-2017 09:45 AM

Hm, can he set up, import mysql via only ftp? Merely uploading files is not enough.
He could send you databases and let you import them yourself.
Or it may be posible to set up cpanel for certain domains/subdomains only?

This is what everyone tell me FTP to load files :)

Well my tech, my friend tech and hosting support all tell me to never share Cpanel or SHELL access.

But i always facing this " Please provide us your Hosting / Cpanel access " to complete the installation and test the website.

They ALWAYS try to get your cpanel access... Did in the past but not anymore LEARNED the hard way $$$$ lol

Database if myphp is not installed or something that allows them database access would be only reason they would need it.

selling me his website
I guess you purchased the website at least that's how I interpret your information.

And no FTP is not enough in most cases to setup a website, you need to setup mysql, fiddle with phpmyadmin etc :2 cents:

Like mineistaken are pointing out, get him to send over the websites mysql files and you could import them yourself. Otherwise I don't see why he would need cpanel acces other than actually helping you out.

Brian, can you create database and import mysql on your own ?

JosephFM 04-28-2017 10:02 AM

Well, if the website you are buying needs a Mysql database or if it's script based (not simply html and image files) than obviously if you want somewhat else to set it up for you that someone will need access to more than just FTP.

Does it use Mysql, well someone needs to create a database. Does the script need a cron-job set up, well, someone has to create said cronjob via c-panel, do some changes or whatever in phpmyadmin, yes, only via c-panel.

I don't see a problem with someone who is going to set-up a website for you asking for your FTP info.

Thanks to all for your input really appreciated.

The Seller have accept to do it with ftp access. :thumbsup

And i have decide to get a new Vps for this new website, so if any problem arise and he need cpanel it will be only on that new server.

It's just everything going well on all my server right now :pimp and i was not comfortable to give cpanel access to a stranger from " Flippa " lol .

cPanel and other similar panels allow for easy importing and exporting, making site migrations easier.

The guy you are purchasing the site from should not need access to your side, but you should need access to his side. Have your web hosting company do the migration. You will need his cPanel account access or access to the specific user that is controlling the domain/website you are buying.

Another option would be the seller can create an export of the site and then send it to you, which you would then import into your server.

Exactly ...

But in fact , the seller could do a move file ( all the site , pages, db, settings ) , send it to the buyer who can then install it .

depends on who he is.

Weīve given our cpanel to people when we were dealing with designers & buying websites, setting things up, but these were good people, honest people.

A person youīre purchasing a website from shouldnīt need or ask for such a part of your server, itīs the whole workings!

You need to ask him to send you the files & explain you can get someone to set this up for you unless you trust the person, sounds like you donīt, so donīt give your cpanel out :warning :2 cents:

myleene 04-28-2017 10:54 PM

There are no reasons for them to request this.

If they couldn't use FTP and use a freshly created mysql DB I would tell them to fuck off. They're either weak sauce and can't use tech well or they're trying to do something shady.

Newly uploaded sites or content on a server should always be verified, tested and isolated before public use.

Same rules apply to domain names. Nobody should request a transfer or rights to admin them.

There are plenty of reasons to need cpanel access when installing a script or site...We need access to cpanel or whm probably 9 out of 10 times that cpanel is installed on a server in order to install some missing dependencies, create a database, reconfigure something in php, install some missing php module, etc. Not everything that is misconfigured on a server is initially visible using just http to access a script. Sometimes even managed hosts hire techs that can't do anything more then basic cpanel or plesk operation.

That being said, it's more of a customer service thing so someone gets up and running faster and doesn't have to do a week of back and forth with configuration/dependencies. If someone refuses to give that access, no problem - it can be done the long way too.

alastik 04-29-2017 04:33 AM

Sly nailed it. Let your host deal with it. Even with database driven sites cPanel to cPanel transfers are plug and chug 9 times out of 10.

What K0nrad and Sly said.

Create a new account and give it no right to run scripts?
