$87 Billion Brings Him Closest to Being World's First Trillionaire

Who do you think will make a $1 trillion first? Bezos or Gates? I'm betting Bezos :thumbsup

Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos could be the world's first trillionaire

The world may soon see its first trillionaire in Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates ? as long as Amazon's Jeff Bezos doesn't get there first.

Currently worth $87 billion, Gates is the richest person in the world. His net worth only continues to rise, despite his efforts to donate the majority of it to charitable causes via his foundation and The Giving Pledge.

However, Bezos is hot on his heels. The mogul's wealth eclipsed $80 billion for the first time on Thursday, Bloomberg reports, putting him temporarily within $5 billion overthrowing Gates as the world's richest person.

Bezos' wealth has grown by $65.2 billion in the last five years, and he currently oscillates between second and third-richest in the world, trading places with the likes of Inditex founder Amancio Ortega and legendary investor Warren Buffett.

As these fortunes continue to expand, the world inches closer to producing its first trillionaire. According to a recent report from Oxfam, an international network of organizations working to alleviate poverty, given the exponential growth of existing wealth, the world could have its first trillionaire in the next 25 years. Gates would be 86 then; Bezos, 78.

Smack dat 04-30-2017 08:16 AM

fris 04-30-2017 08:32 AM

if you were speaking of richest familes, i would have to say Rothschild's would be it, they are about 2 trillion+ in wealth, which meants they control 3/4th of the worlds wealth total population.

BaldBastard 04-30-2017 09:13 AM

Bezos should pass Gates soon if he doesn't do any mega bad deals, Bezos is still actively driving Amazon where as Gates just sits back and gives cash away.

I think it's a shame that people like Bezos, who didn't really contribute anything tangible to society, have all that cash.

Gates deserves every penny. He built something that much of the world uses and even relies on. But with Bezos you could say that the world would be the same even if he had never been born.

TheDynasty 04-30-2017 07:00 PM

this money is crazy money

How did you survive before Bezos and have to walk to the shops?

Bezos closed so many offline businesses and replaced them with low paid warehouse jobs that paid 50% less. You are going to end up poorer. Because your customers are the one's losing their jobs.

Not only does he not contribute, he destroys other people's jobs. If he were taxed enough to pay for the jobs he destroyed, he wouldn't be so rich. This is the type of asshole Trump wants to pay less tax. How about taxing the imported goods Amazon sells high enough to replace the lost money they cost?

It makes me laugh every time you come in here sticking up for anything involving business and economic evolution. You'd be the one protesting the assembly line at the first ford plant. Change is continuous and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it.

This is what I don't get about Paul.

He leaves Britain for cheap talent in a foreign country of which he chooses to become a citizen.

He grows his business, and becomes profitable, by relocating his business overseas.

He retires in a foreign country receiving a pension that his homeland will never see put back into it's own economy.

He complains about a billionaire who's company employs over 341,000 American employees by agreeing that he "provided nothing of value"

I sense a trolling and either Paul's account has been hijacked or he's regretting the business decisions in the past?

AndyA 05-01-2017 07:41 AM

Boy Bezos is worth that much but Amazon can't seem to turn a profit

AndyA 05-01-2017 08:38 AM

Nobody is getting to a trillion dollars

Gates is still $913 BILLION away from a trillion

The Porn Nerd 05-01-2017 09:04 AM

Not even 10% of the way there.

Loser.

Relentless 05-01-2017 09:15 AM

The worlds first trillionaire will be the person who invents clean energy. Cold fusion or something similar will be a trillion dollar property.

That's musk's play. Tesla is a battery company that happens to make cars. His other company is a solar energy company that happens to make roofs. The business are just a way to finance the R&D

Same here. That kind of money is more than anyone could ever spend. If it were me, I'd be giving it away. Water crisis in Flint? Fixed. Plastics in the ocean? Cleaned up. Here's a grant for you NASA, NOAA, etc.

mikeworks 05-01-2017 12:15 PM

Technically they are not really billionaires. A real billionaire would have a million million, but they changed the definition to a thousand million.

I guess if you are too fat and/or lazy to actually leave the couch then you probably worship Bezos as your GOD.

Much like this useless lump of fat...

First Trillionaire / Richest person to ever live will be the person who creates AI that can learn.

None of them will ever reach a trillion. Not even Apple as a company has reached that amount, so how to expect a single person?

You have to spread other people's lies now? They are miles away from being trillionaires.

Yeah something like that. That guy knows how to do business, I'd put my money on him to become the richest man ever. Also, the r&d they do actually serves good purposes, just think about the tube train they designed for Cali.

If there is one man to look up to in terms of business and innovation, thats Musk. :thumbsup

so instead of paying taxes, one can give money away to 'charity', there is a loophole where you can set up stuff in disguise as charity which in reality is there to assist your investments e.g. Bill Gates puts money into jabs which are really there to cause health problems, this then helps his pharmaceutical investments when the vaccine damaged buy the drugs to treat their symptoms

This type of scam is why Bill Gates is still getting richer despite the propaganda about him 'giving his money away'

wehateporn 05-02-2017 03:07 PM

There are many trillionaires, they are secret

Yes we know, you hate America.

Even American charity is evil & selfish at its core, in your twisted world.

Anything good about America, or Americans has something evil at its core, like all your anti-American conspiracy theories. We know. You slip in doubt & negativity into anything positive relating to America or Americans.

Well said, couldn't be truer. No matter what good and how much of the world America takes care of, people still call us evil, bad capitalists. Without America, the world would be in flames right now, no Europe except maybe the UK left, Russia would snatch it all up in a matter of weeks. North Korea takes S. Korea in weeks without our THAAD missile defense and 30k troops there and two Pacific Combat fleets in the area. We fund 90% of the UN, 80% of NATO, give billions upon billions away to countries that simply steal it from the people it's meant for and "redistribute" that money. But yeah we are evil mean assfaces that drive the entire worlds economy, by both producing and CONSUMING all those Chinese goods you guys love to cite. Without the US, China has no one to sell to anymore, they would decline quickly. I'll never understand the hatred some people have towards the US, I think it must be more envy and jealousy than real hatred. Capitalism has faults of course, every system does, but look what that "greed" can make happen........just in the last 10 years the technological advances; google, apple, android, medical tech that will blow your mind......you name it. Yea Switzerland made CERN, pretty cool we can learn how atoms smash into each other. Yes this is important in our understanding of the universe but it's RESEARCH, it will never put food on somebody's table or defend a nation from a foreign aggressor.
