Do you have a home theatre?

So now that our other big home projects are out of the way, I'm finally getting started on a new home theatre.

Does anyone here have their own that they can take pictures of, and share their build experience?

I'm particularly interested in the OTHER things like furniture, decoration, lighting, wall coverings, etc. (I already know what audio / video stuff I'm going to buy). How did you decorate it? What colors? Any cool toys or displays?

We have a sixty inch flat screen TV with surround sound speakers in the ceiling but that's about it. We don't watch enough movies to justify the cost or effort.

It's a crappy old photo but I use to have one in my old house I sold in 2013, LOVED IT.

Had a 7 foot screen, HD receiver etc. The surroundings are what can make it though, you're right. I had the foam (in boxes with black fabric) on the walls and behind the seating. The seating was 3 wide theatre room chairs with the cup holder wedges obviously and it was raised 6-8 inches. Red carpeting, red curtain behind. Movie posters on walls and I also had some neat wall hangings of classic movies. It was a cool set up IMO. On the far right is the shelving with DVDs etc. and the stereo equipment was behind the screen in a closet.

nice set up, I bet you miss it. Yes, the soundīs important, when we had our studio, each room was on a foam rubber floor, so each room was like a box floating inside a room.

At home here we just have our 50 inch with a surround sound digital home theatre system. Most of the summer, we spend our lives on the roof terrace watching tv using the laptop tbh :thumbsup

Yup. The sound and video are 1 think, but the environment is something else. I sort of know what I want but I'm not 100% set on it yet. I want to be cool, but I don't want to spend a ton of money. I also want to do as much of it myself.

For... what? To make the room sound more "dead", or to absorb echo, or something else ?

What movie posters? I assume they were framed? Wooden frames, or metallic? Glass?

Do you not have it anymore? If not, why? Did you move or, change it around?

Why did you do this? Was it just for how it felt? Or was there another reason?

My man cave has a home theater system but not all the theater seats and other bells & whistles. It's mostly my son using it for gaming now. I watch my sports upstairs.

Any room designed for the listening experience should have material to absorb echoes and runaway sound. Sound will bounce off of flat surfaces, use angled services or acoustic padding (any kind of cloth itself is helpful. Rugs, curtains) when possible to kill the bounce.

A had to get it, to experience it at home.. :)

The same here. A large LCD panel + 5.1 sound system and 4K-compatible video player on Android with youtube, web browsers and torrent clients :Graucho Who needs a special room with projector to watch videos nowadays? I even never been to cinema within last 10 years for the same reason.

sounds proofing.

We had a huge shop, main high street. We laid new electrics throughout, cost nearly 2 grand, then bought lumber & special flooring with rubber, a sound deadening foam attached underneath the boards. We laid them down, built an outer wall on the outside & an inner wall on top of the flooring, so the cam rooms and main studio were in a floating box.

Inside, we could moan & scream, outside, not a sound, great if civilians entered the studio for quotation on photos or work :thumbsup

I am sticking with 82cm tvs

MrBottomTooth 05-05-2017 02:52 AM

I'm finally finishing mine up. 120 inch screen and 7.1 setup. Have 2 atmos speakers in ceiling too but I need to upgrade my receiver to use those.i just built a platform so the back row of seats is raised up and I can put another row of theater seats in front.(still need to buy the second row of seats)

I put all the equipment in a rackmount rack built in a wall and bought those middle Atlantic custom faceplates to cover each piece of equipment up so only the front of it sticks out. That is my favourite part.

Unfortunately everything is tore apart as I just ordered over $4k worth of carpet. I should hopefully have pics in about 2 weeks.

Mark, 3D pictures like this. Jaws, Rocky, Friday the 13th, Alien and a few more. They were $30-$0 each if I remember right. Maybe I should sell them, they're just in boxes now lol.

And I found some better photos. These are early before I painted some of the ceiling tiles black to make the room darker.

If you get a device that's a zwave connected you can use that to dim all the lights and such too. Kind of fun.
