Emmanuel Macron's presidential campaign hacked, officials says

(CNN)Leading French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron has been the victim of a "massive and coordinated hacking operation," after files purporting to be from the campaign were posted online via social media, his campaign said Friday.

Campaign officials said the perpetrators of the hack -- revealed just two days before the election -- had mixed fake documents with authentic ones "in order to create confusion and misinformation."
About 14.5 gigabytes of emails, personal and business documents were posted, a CNN look at the data shows. Links to the 70,000-plus files were posted on pastebin, a text-sharing site, just before 2 p.m. ET Friday.

Emmanuel Macron: The next surprise president?
The statement said that by happening near the end of the campaign, the operation is clearly meant to undermine democracy, just like during the recent presidential campaign in the United States. US intelligence officials have said the Russians meddled in the November elections, and Congress is investigating the allegations. Russia has denied any interference.
Macron, if successful in Sunday's final vote, would become the youngest president in the history of France and the nation's youngest leader since Napoleon.
His political organization, En Marche!, called the attack the latest in a series of cyber intrusions.
"The files that are circulated were obtained several weeks ago following the hacking of personal and professional mail boxes," En Marche! said, according to a CNN translation.
Hackers targeted Macron's campaign using methods similar to the suspected Russian hacks in the US targeting the Democratic National Committee last year, according to a report issued in April by cybersecurity researchers. Clinton's rival, Donald Trump, won the election after information from Clinton's campaign was released just before the vote.
Macron a strong favorite
Macron, a 39-year-old independent centrist has led a remarkable campaign, defying the traditional mainstream parties courtesy of his En Marche! movement. For many, however, the campaign has become less about backing Macron, and instead voting against his far-right National Front rival, Marine Le Pen.
Macron has been endorsed by President Francois Hollande, Republican candidate Francois Fillon and the Socialist Party's Benoit Hamon, but he is not universally liked.
'The least worst option': A divided France braces for vote
Often seen as the "elite," Macron's viewed as being part of the establishment and out of touch with the public.
A former economy minister who made his millions as an investment banker, Macron has been attacked from both the left and the right for his perceived arrogance.
Two polls released Friday suggest he still holds a 20-point lead.
Russian involvement?
Russia has said it has no preferred candidate in the French election. But it has good reasons to support Le Pen over Macron.
Le Pen's anti-Europe and anti-NATO stance are perfectly aligned with Russian interests, and she has consistently called for closer ties with President Vladimir Putin.
Le Pen has also expressed a desire to roll back European Union sanctions levied on Russia in the aftermath of the annexation of Crimea, which she has described as "unfair and silly."
It is a stance which contrasts markedly with Macron, a pro-EU, pro-integration candidate who has said he would keep sanctions on Russia in place, if not add to them.
CNN's Paul Murphy, Lonzo Cook, James Masters and Eva Tapiero contributed to this report.

Nothing.

No matter who the candidate, stealing and publishing citizens emails is illegal and wrong.

Ethical hackers would hack the emails of both candidates, not publish them, and use the data to out misdeeds on both sides. This is what Wikileaks used to stand for when i supported them in the beginning. I know this hack wasn't posted on wikileaks initially it was posted on Patebin.

This hack was not ethical and was used as a weapon go sway the election for Putin's pet La Pen.

Those people chiming in when information theft is used as weapon for their side are like those guys cheering when their team member trips the opposing team's player.

In the short term you feel good, and might even get slightly ahead, but there are long term negative consequences.

FAKE NEWS !!!

they hacked his account and put the real documents online together with faked ones
just one day before the election when a candidate in france is not allowed anymore to speak in public.

but i think this time it will be a bummerang. french people are not that stupid - they have watched the elections in USA and they will realize that someone tries to influence the elections with fake news.

the official statements from french goverment are already the whole day in the news. they confirm that many of the stolen documents are real (and just prove that everything in the campiagn went legal) and these documents are mixed and uploaded together with fake and falsificated documents to an anonymous filesharing site.

So if a politician is up to their necks in lies and scams, you want the State to keep it quiet. I never took you to be that brainwashed.

probably. Funny though that the war mongering establishment elite are called 'liberals' nowadays.

funny that once Trump bombed Syria he was all of a sudden praised by 'liberals' and 'liberal' mainstream media like CNN. Before this event (before he was bought/blackmailed/threatened by the people also controlling Clinton, Bush, Obama) when he was very critical of invading, liberals hated his guts.

liberals really love war apparently. They love to keep the vicious cycle of bombing -> refugees -> terrorism. So progressive and sophisticated they are.

are you that plagued by inferiority complexes that you see the usa as a template for each language and culture?

when a country only has 2 meanings and call the one liberal and the other republican that does not mean that you can cover the whole planet with this brainfart circumstance.

it only means that a country is ideologicly so poor that ANY form of individual expectant attitude have to be found in ONE of the 2.

i personaölly believe that the majority of the amercians (expect the poor and brainwahed who don´t realize it) is fitting 100% in any of the 2 parties and most of them wished they have more choices to be represented.

liberal in europe have a VERY different meaning as liberal in US.
i do personally not know ANY liberal party in europe what would allow private people to own arms. i do not know ANY liberal party in europe what would include a war in negotiating varieties. i also do not knao ANY liberal party in europe what would allow a 100% liberated economy without any kind of control.

so you say spoon and mean knife - get rid of that cluster thinking and start to use your own brain.
