What am I doing wrong with my FB Messenger app?
 

On my new phone (Galaxy S7 - Running Nougat) my son often uses FB messenger to video chat to me. He does these face effects like skulls and stuff. When the click the little stars a the bottom of my screen, I just get one place holder with a circle with a line through it in...

How do I get these effects that he has? Do I need to download them separately, or perhaps activate them some how within the phone or app? Please help - Its all new to me :)

Thanks Bladewire, but its not the emojis I mean. Its the 'masks' when he video chats with me, a bit like the above video...

Thing is I know where to access them, except that instead of it showing me a selection of masks to choose from, I just get one empty place holder (presumably to show me that they are not available) instead of a choice of masks...

Thats what I want to get on my phone if that makes sense? I dont really understand why they are not already there, hence why I asked if I need to download them or 'activate\ them ?

Oh right!

Point the front camera at your face in a well lit room.

Push the button and hold it down (this tells the camera to find your face)

After it finds your face, all the available masks will pop up to the right of the button and you can scroll through them. You might have to experiment moving the camera farther back or different angles.

It's like doing a laser eye scan but for your face. You have to do it every time you want to do a mask video.

Have you done that already and still get no masks popping up?

This is the point I am at - However, instead of the expected selection of masks, I just see one single place holder with a circle with a line through inside it, and no masks... I'm in where the masks are supposed to be - Its just they are not there... :(

It looks like messenger had an update March 17th did you install that update yet? Could be the issue

Wait one thing.... when you go into the app did you press on your face on the screen?

You have to press on your face for it to scan your face in Facebook. After it scans your face the masks should popup.

The yellow circle appeared around my face briefly, but I didn't tap on it. Anyway, thanks for all your help but I think I'll leave it now until I see my Son next... He can probably sort it out :)

No, still no joy. I did the thumb on the face in a well lit room thing but nothing. I even uninstalled messenger and re downloaded it. Still the same.

Never mind - I can live without it I suppose...

MI5/6 isn't receiving that data. Restart the app then login again.

I use the Starbucks app to order my coffee every morning.

One day the login screen stopped working.

I updated, uninstalled, reinstalled nothing worked. Over a few days I tried everything and got so desperate i called Starbucks tech support. Nothing worked. I Finally gave up.

Then about a week later I caught up on all my phone "system updates" there were 10 or so. After I installed all the updates and rebooted I thought I'd try the Starbucks app again. It worked! You will get your Facebook messenger 3D selfie masks to work this I know, you don't give up easily, when the largest of poos is stuck you keep squeezing and squeezing until finally it plops out. You can do this! Thinking it as birthing the biggest poo ever and how relieved you'll feel once you've done it :thumbsup

Yeah, your right, It will probably start working at some point - No biggy... Just didn't know if it was myself that was doing something wrong :)
