I just watched the 1st episode of American Gods...Can someone please tell me WTF I just watched???
 

The 7ft tall leprechaun was my favorite part.

I don't get it honestly. All the promo stuff made it look cool but I couldn't finish the first episode :2 cents:

I read the book many years ago on the recommendation of a good friend who had not ever really led me astray before.

He did that time.

I (painfully) finished the novel only to ask the same question as OP. WTF did I just read and why did he think this was actually good? I don't get it.

Didn't bother with the tv show

It is a GREAT book but if you didn't read the book and you dont have any knowledge of regional mythology then you prolly arent going to get the TV show...Personally I love it but I know who the leprechaun is, as well as Chernabog, the Djinn and others...google can help I wont ruin it by spilling the beans but the characters ARE central to the story line which without giving away too much is a good v evil old v new kind of thing

That was funny but the effects weren't done well.

Also the blatant race baiting of the black guy being beaten in slowmo rain with buckets of blood being thrown in scene, in slowmo , followed by an attempted lynching if him. STUPID huge turnoff.

Also the special effects are often sub par for what they're trying to conveh, probably due to first season budget.

I searched for the scene on YouTube and not there anywhere but this version where people are watching the scene and providing commentary. It takes all the magic out of the scene so you might not want to watch as a spoiler :disgust

American Gods is about as far from a "superhero fantasy storyline" as you can get if you are not somewhat educated its going to go WAY past you this is not written for the Blackish/Goldbergs/Imaginary Mary crowd

Yea, I made it to the third episode. I give up. Not getting it.

I am a little bored with all movies and television now though.

Or just pop to a tube and watch it there.

Plenty of men eating vaginas, and girls eating vaginas too...

I watch most English shows now a days...it is not bad. I am hoping for a bit more action and a little more myth story line about ancient gods etc
