a dog killing its owner is a sure sign of either the dog being ill or the owner being a total cunt to the animal...it is a shame that pitbulls get this bad rep because of idiot owners...

Austin is a very very dog friendly city, which is great. They are lots of fun. Though the amount of people that do not clean up after their dog is ludicrous. In building hallways, elevators, streets.

Do not get a dog if you cannot give them the love and attention that they deserve.

vast majority of attacks are fueled by the mistreating of animals. Same when elephants or gorillas go on their rampages (well deserved rampages!) :disgust

But those dogs can still be assholes. A friend of mine has an aunt that has a Chihuahua and it bites everyone that is not her. Even her husband and kids can't touch it or it bites them and she thinks it's cute and funny. The difference, obviously, is that pit bulls are a breed created for killing things.

Sadly, pits are a breed that seem to attract shitty people who probably shouldn't have a dog in the first place and they are getting a pit simply because they think it makes them a badass.

And this also happens when they're not. It is the breed.

So genetics has nothing to do with the breed i guess. Selectively bred for over 150 years to kill its own kind in unprovoked attacks... what could possibly go wrong when these dogs are constantly pimped out to the public. Not even close to being the most popular dog yet pit bull type dogs are the most often dumped off at shelters...hmm wonder why?

In my life, I have known several people who have had pit bulls. In most of the cases, they were amazing dogs. Fun, smart, playful, affectionate. Everything you want in a pet. Those dogs were also raised well in good families. Sure, they had the physical ability to cause serious damage, but these dogs were lovers, not fighters. I have, sadly, also known a few assholes with pits. A guy I used to live across the street had a couple of pits. He was one of those white trash guys who thought having a couple of badass dogs made him tough. He would love it when the dogs would rush the fence, snarling and growling at people walking by. Those are the kind of dogs that one day eat your kid.

Yeah, that's why pet alligators and tigers are so popular.

Only an idiot would choose to have a dog breed with such a bad rep. They've been bred to have an aggressive nature, so always going to trouble when walking, with people it doesn't know, eating, etc. There are far better breeds for pets, but not many better as fighters.

Anyone who chooses a pit bull as a pet is asking for trouble especially if they have a family. If a family wants a dog, go for a Labrador, Boxer, Collie, etc.

pit bulls are around #40 in the list of breeds that bite humans...#1 are poodles...you may well argue that pitbulls are #1 on the list as for how many humans they have killed but your entire theory is shit because poodles bite the most...pits are just strong and poodles are not...

Bites aren't a problem. All dogs bite. Pit bull do not bite. pit bulls latch on shake and tear flesh from bone. Pit bulls are the #1 canine killer of people and animals by a huge margin.

These are not victims of poodle attacks. What other dog breeds are removing limbs from people? I'll spare everyone the pictures of kids' faces half removed.

And where are you getting pit bulls at #40 on what bite list?

as a former pitbull owner I have a lot of interest in this subject...it is basically very rare for pitbulls to bite humans at all because humans avoid them and are very careful around them...poodles are the #1 biters...chihuahuas are #2...

I am not disputing that putbulls are #1 in killing, but articles that claim pitbulls bit the most are bullshit...fear sells and journalists like to have "opinions" that coincide with their direct financial interest..."poodles bite the most" does not sell...

unfortunately pitbulls attract a lot of low quality humans as owners for all the wrong reasons...if these same owners had a doberman or rott the same thing would happen...it is mostly human garbage that is the problem and not the animal...

a dog is what you make of it...take a white arian circumcised cracker and treat him like an absolute animal from birth and you will get an animal regardless of race...

Keeping a pit bull is the equivalent of having a loaded gun in the house. It looks safe most of the time, right up until the shit hits the fan.
