Depends on your lifestyle. There's lots of places you can get a house for next to nothing, but what about gas prices, food, distance to work etc. ?

Bladewire 06-11-2017 06:08 PM

Flint Michigan?

beerptrol 06-11-2017 06:17 PM

Detroit, if you aren't white and can handle the crime. Eastern Kentucky, if you are white.

:1orglaugh We have a winner.. just bring your own water.

There are tons of areas/places that are cheap but no one person here could answer that question for you. It depends on what you need out of a location.

Towns or small cities will always be cheaper than big cities.

I live in a town in IN of 800 people and it's cheap as fuck with almost zero crime, but the nightlife is one small bar.

just a punk 06-12-2017 02:17 PM

Life in any city can be cheap ;)

Several years ago in Australia a town was selling released lots for something like $1 each. Basically a peppercorn payment. The catch was that you had to improve the land (build on) within 18 months. Not sure how they funded the infrastructure - roads were laid and everything was ready to go - or how many people seriously took up that offer.

Bet there's similar incentives in USA towns looking to grow.

PR_Glen 06-13-2017 07:02 AM

Florida has to be up there, even some gated communities I have seen seem pretty reasonable.

The western parts of the US were built with incentives exactly like that. Well, that plus a gold rush.

Florida you can buy a two bedroom apartment for $5000 in a very nice development, if you're ok to pay $70,000 to join and $20,000/yr for your membership to a country club

freecartoonporn 06-13-2017 08:30 AM

any 2x6 free area.

My brother in law lives in the Arizona Desert. It's dirt cheap there. He bought a small crappy house for a song and a dance; I swear I paid more for my Jeep than he paid for his house.

Horatio Caine 06-13-2017 09:20 AM

You can probably stay at bladewires subsidized apartment for free if willing to do some "handy" work.

When was the last time you visited Detroit? The City is changing rapidly. Crime is dropping, downtown is buzzing, people are moving back into the City centre, businesses are opening up, big companies are headquartering downtown, property values are increasing.

The construction of the new stadium close to Comerica for Red Wings and now the Pistons is really got the place buzzing again and you can feel it. The stadium opens in September, there will be 3-4 games a week, 8-9 months of the year, bringing an estimated 15000 people to the Downtown core several times a week. There will be concerts weekly, events going on and more businesses moving into the surrounding area with walking streets, Q line tram system and Canada just across the border. All in all, Detroit is in the best shape it has been in over a decade and it looks like it'll continue improving. Sure, crime is still a concern but this is the same in a lot of US cities, I wouldn't rule out Detroit as a good place to visit for a weekend now.

Where in AZ? I've been thinking of moving there to start an off grid homestead, and the gun laws there are reasonable.

So there is no $5000 houses for sale in da hoods of Detroit? Those houses that were in many "top 10 of cheapest places in US to buy a house" etc lists?

Pretty sure that is what people mean by saying you can get cheapest in detroit. They do not mean the nice areas (obviously, imho).
