(LIVE VIDEO) Fire engulfs tower block in west London, people trapped (LIVE VIDEO)

People can be seen at the windows, including one man waving a blanket from the window. People from neighbouring estates are huddled outside in their pyjamas near the flaming building, some shouting ?put your head out the window? or calling the man with the blanket to shout his flat numbers so they can guide the fire services to him. Fire officers are spraying his window with water to try and douse the flames.

There?s a smell of acrid smoke and flaming debris is spiralling from the building. There?s the sound of breaking glass and dull pops.

This looks bad, very bad.

How did a fire spread so quickly to so many apartments in a modern tower block? These buildings are built so fires inside apartments are contained in the apartment they start in. It had to be started in the lift shaft.

Saw this on tv reminds me of 9/11

oppoten 06-13-2017 09:40 PM

Horrific.

Paul Markham 06-13-2017 10:25 PM

It appears there were gas pipes fitted in the stairwells, this would have spread the fire. It was also refurbished recently and clad in a plastic coating, probably to insulate it. The news is saying the fire started in an apartment with an electrical device. Possibly a refrigerator.

The building has had fires before.

There have been fatalities. With 120 flats there could have been 400-500 people in the tower. The death toll could be in the 100s. West London fire live: Fire service chief confirms there have been fatalities

Looking at the people who live there, probably the opposite.

NatalieK 06-14-2017 03:03 AM

Itīs horrible, been watching since early this morning.

There were 40 fire engines with 200 fire fighters & more than 50 people sent to hospital so far & a number of fatalities!

Really awful, itīs one of the worst fires iīve seen & horrible to hear what people are saying on the news :(

AndyA 06-14-2017 07:41 AM

that sucks sorry for all the people that were hurt

Barry-xlovecam 06-14-2017 08:29 AM

Sorry for the victims and their families.

Glad I live in a house with ground floor egress windows and doors.

Burning up alive is a terrible death.

Why didn't the fire suppression sprinklers work?

Saying there weren't any in the building... someone is going to spend a long time in prison if this is true. The entire building just had a 10 million pound overhaul 2 years ago, seems a bit crazy to think that sprinklers were not installed.

The building safety codes are real bad in Europe in general. Everything is 'grandfathered' in maybe? In the USA you have to bring buildings up to code when you remodel or when the property is over 4 units to maintain your CO (Certificate of Occupancy). Same thing in Canada maybe ...

Paul Markham 06-14-2017 11:55 AM

The death toll is 12 now and expected to be a lot higher.

Looks like your country doesn't know how to build safe buildings anymore :helpme

meant to be something about the cladding, they tried to use to avoid bad sight from the building, the views... like wtf?

also, the government said no to a sprinkler system :helpme

12 deaths so far, maybe more :Oh crap

Sarn 06-14-2017 12:30 PM

Horribly :( Where are the firemen?

crockett 06-14-2017 12:36 PM

This is why I'd never live in a condo or large apartment building.

Another Reminder skyscrapers can burn (in this case for more than 12 hours) & Not Collapse...
Yet on 9/11 twin tower fell after about 1 hr

This is the result of building on the cheap. Thre are numerous stories of these types of buildings being unfit for use a few decades after construction. The Residents Committee were constantly complaining that the building was a fire hazard. The cladding that was put on the outside of the building acted as an accelerant. There were other apartment tower blocks that partially collapsed.

This is the cost of building on the cheap, Labour was planning to do a lot more of it.

What a ridiculous comment...

The buildings couldn't be more different and I don't see any planes sticking out of this one.....

Yep that proves it.

Its now official.

One building collapses - another with a completely different design and type of incident does not.

Well FUCK ME !, who would have thought that might happen !
