Moved to Cloudways (1+ month managed VPS review) *****

Hello,

previously I have been hosted on Amerinoc managed VPS. It was a good service, but I don't think the optimization of the setup/services matches the most recent offers. So I was looking for a new managed VPS when I found articles about Cloudways (CW). I signed up... and I was struck by the speed & performance! They use several levels of caching (Varnish, Nginx->Apache, Memcached, etc.) plus you have optimized installs of most common software packages (Wordpress, Magento, etc). My sites improved 3x in speed WITHOUT any code refactoring. Thumbs up!

First of all you need to understand CW is not a hosting company. It's a SaaS (Software as Service) - you buy a VPS (Vultr, DO, Amazon, etc.) via them and they setup everthing for you. They also do updates / security patches / firewall setup. Whole process is quick and pretty convenient!

PROS:
  • huge performance improvement without the need to buy heavy bulk VPS (CPU/RAM)
  • quick adding of VPS instances
  • ability to change PHP/MySql version, Apache/Nginx settings, crons or start/stop install services, endless list!
  • one click install of software
  • very good pricing - for example on $5 Vultr VPS they add $6 and you get a fully managed VPS!
  • hourly billing
  • easy to use and very light control panel (no cPanel or DA), they have their own stuff and it works fine
  • API - yes you can easily do literally everything via API, spin up a new server, add / remove software, start / restart services, add / remove users...you name it.
  • quick support - in most cases they have Live suport online and they respond quick
  • automatic updates / fixes / patches + CW monitor (a small bot that looks into your VPS issues and notifies you if needed).
  • 14 DAYS TRIAL! + ongoing promos

CONS
  • no root - but that's the usual price for managed VPS
  • no email services - you can't host your own email server, but it's easy to add external services (Mailgun, Gmail SMTP, ElasticMail, etc.)
  • support is very helpful, but if there is a TODO page in their extensive knowledge-base initially they direct you to that page. Of course if you are unable to use the article / fix things they are willing to help.

So far I'm very happy (1+ month). So if you like, give Cloudways a try. [Affiliate link]

ah they integrate with Digitalocean, AWS, vultr, google cloud, wonder why they don't have azure? Probably because they make you run windows server. But very neat setup. AWS is a pain in the ass to run unless you are very skilled and spend a lot of time managing it. Cloudwith.me is similiar to this as well and offer Azure servers too.

First time I hear of Cloudwith.me , looks ok but really pricy. Smallest package includes only 6GB traffic for $40. Unless you use CDN this will be very expensive.

If someone wanted root, email, real support and a better value than perhaps they should check out MojoHost who sponsors GFY:

im currently using ovh for all my hosting, but i manage my own servers, i would say if you need managed vps, mojohost would be the best option, not many managed vps out there that are good with good support, everyone i have worked with that uses mojo have nothing but the best to say

If my budget was higher I would definitely go with MojoHost.

You can't afford $10-$50? Have you looked at the plans and options?

We have excellent VPS offerings at great prices.

I assume those are un-managed, right? That's my piont. You have GREAT product/service, but it's at least one more zero for the same setup as I have.

If I ever grow you will be the first option to consider.

Not necessarily. I can write/sell any deal or discount that I want. If you send me your plan requirements (CPU, RAM, Storage, Price) I am happy to compare against our plans and make an offer to earn your business. [email protected]

It's our understanding that Cloudways does not allow adult sites of any nature. We had some simple pin type blogs on them that had no nudity, just tease, and they told us to move. They said the adult content was too much due to links and type of content.

They may have changed, but I'd check the ToS to be safe, or just move to Mojo, they'll handle you right. Brad has soft hands and long fingers.
