I did once as a kid, a chica who was an amazing friend going through a tough time at home who stole makeup from Shoppers Drug Mart. it was her way of fighting back at the bullshit and even though a really bad choice I understood why she did it. It was a LOT of makeup though, if I recall correctly at least 2 bills worth.

an idiotic move as I told her at the time, they have cameras and mirrors everywhere. she got caught, huge surprise. her parents were not exactly reliable or even all that present and security were threatening to involve police so I said she stole it for me.

my white dad showed up to collect us, smoothed things over and (knowing her situation) agreed with how I handled it. She ended up living with us for a year after that, so the cry for help if that's what it was worked. and me taking the blame cost me nothing, I absolutely knew that going in so wasn't exactly a valiant move.

as an adult I think peeps need to be responsible for themselves. support I'm down for endlessly, taking on ish not my own is not my job.

What constitutes a "hit"? Are we talking a misdemeanor and fine or something more serious?

Harmon is still here.

I've got deluxe full insurance, and uninsured motorist and a perfect driving record, no tickets either. If the friend was a good friend, I knew they'd appreciate it, and they'd pay it forward somehow then yeah I'd take a hit for them no big deal.

was integral to us both emerging unscathed

shoplifting by a racialized girl with a whitish raggamuffin (however blame was laid) with a threat of police involvement? polished white dude showing up in a suit to deal with the situ matters. you can't be that naive to not get how that changes an outcome.

The incident:
My buddy was over the legal drinking limit. Not drunk, not staggering just above the limit. As we were pulling out of the bar his nose was not in the road but close enough as traffic was going by doing 40 - 50 mph.
Without looking in his sideview mirrors he decided to back up a foot and his rear-end hit some guys car who was right behind him leaving the same go-go bar.

You can't see inside Johnny's truck over the double limo tint. I crawled over him, hopped out of the drivers side, offered the guy 2 one hundred dollar bills. This dude wasn't having any of that and said he is calling the cops.
I took the careless driving ticket with property damage over Johnny getting his second DUI.
(That night I only consumed two beers and the rest was soda verified by the bartender)

"Friends, there are no friends" ...

beerptrol 06-22-2017 08:14 AM

depends on what the rap is for
if he leaves the toilet seat up...I'll take the heat from his wife and say it was me.
if he commits a crime....no. And a true friend would never ask

2nd? You are enabling him! If I drank as much as you I would have taken the keys and drove

Ditto :2 cents:

That being said I would have done the same thing as OP if I'd been in that situation and it would be a one off never again with guilting my friend into getting treatment.
