What needs to happen to you for you to convert to another religion or to become a believer?

Any ideas?

Bladewire 06-30-2017 04:21 PM

It has to be real.

Barry-xlovecam 06-30-2017 04:23 PM

The man in the sky has to appear before me and make his case (I have to be mentally competent at that time also).

In other words -- not happening.

DraX 06-30-2017 04:26 PM

I'm an atheist and thus don't believe in a god but I do like reading and following myths and what might be true within religions.

For instance to be a believer of "the other side", I must see real proof with my own eyes and not caused by other real world influences.

There are no gods in a foxhole that will get you out.

pimpmaster9000 07-01-2017 02:20 AM

Just throw away any rationality.

mineistaken 07-01-2017 04:56 AM

My point of view - religion is something like a nationality, you can not change it. You only cqn become atheist/agnostic, but not switch.

That's like saying you can't be straight and go Gay, of course you can!

:2 cents:

I was thinking this about Madonna. If she lives long enough to see enough new ideas from the young enter the mainstream, she'll realize what she's done. She left her own tribe to join a foreign one, because it seemed cool at the time. I've never been in or around the military, but I'm sure they've got names for people like her.

"What needs to happen to you for you to convert to another religion or to become a believer?"

lobotomy will work in my case.

mce 07-02-2017 11:29 PM

Do you guys consider atheism a religion?

It has theories regarding human origins (evolution)

It has theories regarding dysfunction (the analog of sin) - humanists consider class / psychological / sociological factors as leading to dysfunction

It even has theories regarding the good life

Religion?

Anybody else troubled by the fact that many atheists tend to also be big on state power?

Spunky 07-02-2017 11:44 PM

Jesus will always be the lord!

Yes, it's Judaism for the goy.

The purpose of atheism is to destroy Christianity. No different to Communism.

Religion is cultural and tribal, regardless of whether or not you believe in it. Destroy a culture's belief system and you can dominate that culture.

Every religion promise a kind of post mortem future while atheism is pragmatic. That's why atheists are more efficient and probably happier during their life than most believers in a hypothetical god. :stoned

danep 07-03-2017 02:44 AM

Most people's first religious memories are not intellectual, but emotional and relate to an experience, usually on the family intimate level, or close community. People don't have to be practitioners or believers in order to be effected by religion, it's pseudo intellect to assume that by being secular you are contrary to religion.
I met quite a few genius programmers who are aware of the bacteria, yet they feel the urge to dip in the Ganges for example.

Fear and faith.

They cannot exist without each other.

Atheism as practiced/lived by many is a religion, a core set of beliefs and philosophy.
The belief that there is no intelligent creator is still just a belief no different than believing in a creator.

Atheists worship science but don't accept what even the great Einstein accepted - that the mystery of the Universe is probably beyond human intelligence.

Paul Markham 07-03-2017 03:05 AM

All religions are a failure. They say they are on Gods mission to convert everyone, they can't.

not really true. Einstein was a genius but he stuck on his own theory.

if you look at this discussion you will see that it has a point were it getīs unlogic.
the unlogic part comes at the point when you answer the last question "and who have created...." with a creator.
the logic sense of that would be than to ask who have created the creator.

a much simpler answer on that is brought by einstein himself because he found out that space and time is one and the same thing.
without time no space without space no time.

if there was a point with no space that was also the point with no time.
means there CAN NOT be a before that, because time was not existing.

and this is the physical prove that you do not need any creator.

Absolutely nothing. There is no god, and anything that looks miraculous, no matter what it is, is based on science, nothing else.

mce 07-04-2017 01:06 PM

Ever notice that many self-proclaimed atheists are also big fans of STATISM?
