New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) spent part of the weekend lounging on a state beach he ordered closed to the public amid a local government shutdown, photos show.

Christie spent Saturday night and part of Sunday at New Jersey?s Island Beach State Park with family and friends at a summer beach house owned by the government. The park was among those closed over the holiday weekend during the ongoing statewide government shutdown after lawmakers were unable to pass a new budget.

The governor?s family, however, were apparently excluded from the visitation ban and aerial photos obtained by NJ Advance Media show a group of people, including Christie and his wife, Mary Pat, alone on an empty beach.

The Republican governor defended his stay in the park amid the closures, saying his post gives him the perks of a residence at Island Beach.

“That’s because the governor has a residence at Island Beach. Others don’t,” Christie reportedly said at a news conference Saturday that came during the first day of the state's park shutdown.

“It’s just the way it goes. Run for governor and then you can have the residence,” he added, referring to a residence the Garden State has kept for their governors to visit since the 1950s.

Do as I say, not as I do. That saying doesn't fit to any party. It's just Government issue in general.

I just don't get this. At all.

Politicians have a job, and "upper management" cannot just take a vacation when all hell has broken lose at work. In this case, the NJ state government is shut down which means all of the beaches and government services are shut down - over a holiday weekend. Instead of demanding everyone stay at their offices until this is resolved, the governor decided to go on vacation - to the very same beach that no one else can go to.

Didn't anyone in his office say "Gee, this might look bad".

He's in his final term as Governor, and his Presidential hopes are long gone. So I just don't think he gives a shit anymore about optics.
