If you want to walk, take the subway or pay to park move to Manhattan, NYC, NY, USA
That angle to the curb parking picture in 1920s American reminds me of what I saw in Bucharest or Budapest in the past few years.
I live in suburban America -- we drive big cars we like and like spacious parking lots. I usually park in the back of the parking lot where my vehicle won't get nicked up by other car doors opening.
In dense urban cities in America, where land costs are high, there is paid parking above ground and underground.
So what is the problem exactly?
