How many of you have and use a landline these days?

I was just filling in an online form and it just rejected my landline number - It wanted a mobile or it just wouldn't work - Then I was watching some reality shit program on TV and the police asked some 14 year old girl for her mobile number - They got really pissed when she told them she didn't have one and accused her of lying...

I feel so old.....

wehateporn 07-24-2017 08:02 AM

Avoiding mobiles here due to health risks, purely on landline

Why doesn't that surprise me:winkwink:...

2MuchMark 07-24-2017 08:17 AM

I have a landline but I don't know why. When we moved 2 years ago we had it installed but I never use it, and never give the number out. Every time it rings, its just stupid sales calls. I'm really thinking about just closing it.

I am working on not carrying one at all...too many responsibilities at the moment so I have to carry one but as soon as I finish I will not carry one any more...

Bladewire 07-24-2017 08:25 AM

We have to have a landline here by the beach the steep hills and cliff here block all signals inland to the cell tower from within the house. If I go outside and walk a bit I get a signal and sometime a bar indoors.

Rochard 07-24-2017 08:35 AM

Haven't had a landline in decades.... 2002?

PaperstreetWinston 07-24-2017 08:50 AM

Im paying about $10/mo for a landline thats been bundled with my interwebs and the only calls I get on it are from the ISP asking me if I like the service.

Sorry, no it was her mobile - They just assumed every 14 year old had one...

Spunky 07-24-2017 09:38 AM

I need one for the alarm system

Axeman 07-24-2017 09:43 AM

My mother and grandmother still have landlines. I think that is all the family and friends that I know still have one. I have the internet phone from the Cable company, but only because their internet package comes with it. I'd nix it if it was possible. Don't think I have the phone plugged in though.

MedCash_Miller 07-24-2017 10:25 AM

what's the point anymore?

haven't ever needed one and even some alarm systems now don't require landlines.

NatalieK 07-24-2017 10:39 AM

always had landlines & for the past 2 years only used skype, no mobile or landline. Now have another mobile.

Life is so much more peaceful without a mobile :2 cents:

j3rkules 07-24-2017 10:44 AM

I do not, but I know at least a several people that still do.

CurrentlySober 07-24-2017 10:59 AM

I have one for internet and my alarm system, and use it from time to time. My son has a Landline for his internet but doesn't even have a phone plugged into it, nor does he know his number.

BaldBastard 07-24-2017 10:59 AM

My land line is for Indian spammers and my sister who cant work out how to use a cell phone.

I figured so, just could not figure how this instance of 14 year old not having a mobile phone related to you feeling old. :)

JFK 07-24-2017 11:42 AM

I have one for emergencies only :2 cents:

BaldBastard 07-24-2017 11:48 AM

I hope you all realise there's as many people sitting at a pc surfing the web as there are using landlines...

There's nothing cool about a Slovakian supporting Trump

Belinda 07-24-2017 12:59 PM

My parents had theirs for years, only recently got rid of it about 2 years ago and they kept the same number as long as I could remember so we could always get a hold of them. Still remember the number to this day.

Barry-xlovecam 07-24-2017 01:41 PM

I have this bullshit called ATT ADSL2+ so my internet is *a landline* 2 copper pairs. My phone is 4G.

I had VOIP over cable Internet for years.
Advantage of 4G -- in the event my electric power goes down I still have a phone and some internet access.

I have a bluetooth speaker/mic so the moble phone is not right next to my ear usually. I mean one of the wireless routers is in the same room anyway -- so I'm doomed :laughing-

JuicyBunny 07-24-2017 02:17 PM

Landline no. Smartphone no. Smoke Signals. Yes.

InfoGuy 07-25-2017 03:38 AM

I keep a copper landline as California is prone to earthquakes. If the Big One hits and knocks out the power grid, neither VOIP nor cell towers will work, but the landline may work because there is electricity from gas powered backup generators.

Sid70 07-25-2017 04:51 AM

I could have it for almost zero $ but I see no reason to.

crockett 07-25-2017 05:03 AM

I haven't had a land line since the late 90s. I was a early cord cutter after I got my 1st cell phone.

The main lines would almost certainly be cut and they have emergency portable cell towers that would be brought in fairly quick.

Also cell towers have huge battery banks with back up generators to keep them going. It's way more likely you would have cell coverage rather than land line.

Paul Markham 07-25-2017 06:05 AM

Has to be 5 years at least.

I have a landline. I pay about $53 a month for it. Every month when I pay the bill I tell myself that I'm going to cancel it, then I forget until I pay the bill the next month. I have to send about 3 faxes a year with it. Nobody ever answers it cuz it's always just salesmen.

freecartoonporn 07-25-2017 09:29 AM

i read it landmines.

53 bucks??? I hope that includes internet (and even then it is too high), otherwise WTF? :1orglaugh

onwebcam 07-25-2017 03:16 PM

Not since I was on house arrest back around '02 or so. They had to have it for monitoring. Several years before then. And before question is asked or assumed.. Violation of probation for dui.

Tasty1 07-25-2017 03:40 PM

I haven't had a landline for 6 years, would be difficult when you travel every few months :) But in most countries you have now 3 in 1, Phone + internet + Cable TV. So in fact, most people call by internet.

why? wifi & bluetooth works better :2 cents:

ErectMedia 07-25-2017 08:41 PM

Got rid of the landline maybe 3-4 years ago, handful of friends were shocked I still had one. Was basically just a box full of sales call spam anyway so should have killed it sooner.

adultchatpay 07-25-2017 08:51 PM

I can't even remember when was the last time i used a landline.
