Their twitter says 5-10 days downtime due to datacenter issues but short of all their servers being confiscated or something, that seems an awful long time.

Maybe because the owner was arrested and waiting for the forcible US visa right now? ;)

don´t most people use coinbase or bitpanda.

I found bitpanda harder to join, they have a verification system you speak with someone, online, camming... but the set up is great, the rewards are better. Lower rates, higher purchasing :thumbsup

BTC-e has been Russian-related since day 1, most of any BTC involved people had a shady feel about it, (probably because of the Russiany feel), I wouldnt have kept $1 worth of anything there ever.

update #5 from BTC-e, they got 55% of users funds so far, distribution begins end of Aug
