The hydro generator would work in the dark. This won't. The solar paint idea for very low cost solar panels and new efficient li Ion battery packs seems better for places like in Africa and the tropics that get a lot of sunshine. Interesting concept based on a very old idea -- hydro-power. Continuous hydro-power generation is good as you need no battery storage.

Takes a long time to charge with that small cell. I got this one in 2015, a nice 20 watts small and portable charges my battery packs and phone fast even on a cloudy day :thumbsup

Yeah, but you can find sunshine every 12hrs but running streams with enough depth and current to run that thing will not always be so easy to find.
