Maybe they did vote for him, maybe they think he is behind them, but that doesn't mean he stands by them, that doesn't mean he is behind it. Him not denouncing them right away was, if anything, a poor political move to say the least. He was probably thinking that singling out any part of his base would be a bad idea, but obviously the opposite is true and he made a poor choice. This does NOT mean he is behind it though. This issue has nothing to do with political parties, there is nobody in the senate behind this, no congressman, no city councilman. They are all against this movement.
