Quick Tip for those attending WMA Amsterdam - Dont get ripped off!
If you fly into Schiphol airport, you may well want to get a taxi to the hotel...
Taxis operate at a 'fixed fee' of 39 euros. However if you are not aware of this, just get in and then ask 'How Much' when you arrive, you will be told that they 'Forgot to put the meter on' and therefore they will 'Just charge you 60 euros instead... I was caught like that myself once, simply because I didn't know, so I'm passing it on so you do know... OK, its not a huge deal, but for those of you who simply dont like to get taken advantage of, its good to know... Enjoy the event :thumbsup |
you deserve it if instead of taking the train from schiphol you are taking a taxi.
|
60 euros is nothing. Ask the chinese tourists who get scammed for hundreds up to a thousand ;)
Oh and indeed take the train. 20 minutes straight into the centre. |
No Dutchman will take a taxi at Schiphol....
Those cabbies at the airport are well known here, in a bad way. Take the train/bus, better have a friend meet you ;) In any other place you can take a taxi without problems. But the trains and busses/trams even (rent)bikes are the best way to get around. A'dam is no city to drive a car. |
My only travel is my illness so ...
|
same as everywhere else

Diito and even worse in Prague, however there is one difference....Prague has NO train, NO tram and NO buses from Havel airport... So put your negotiation hat on and hold out for no more then 25 Euros ( about 600 czech crowns) this includes about 200 crowns "rip off":2 cents: |
Just grab an Uber, it's like EUR 35 or something to the city center

ANYWHERE in the world, first thing to do before the flight is to spend 5 minutes on google and/or airport website to check out public transport links. Taxis are only for those rare instances when there are no public transport links or if it is past their schedule. |
Got baggage? take a cab -- don't travel like a peasant.

Seriously though, if I've just got off a long flight, I wanna relax in the back of a taxi and be taken straight to the door of the hotel. Life's short, travel in style! Its really not about the cost, its about the being fucked over... If a taxi says £200 for the trip, (UP FRONT) then its up to you if you wanna take it - No one is forcing you. But if its a fixed fee and you are not aware, then its only fair to pay the fixed fee... Not be lied to, and made to pay more than you should... Which is the point of my post... Here is the exact same situation : https://amsterdamshallowman.com/2016...i-drivers.html Scroll down - See "1. Forgetting to turn on the meter" |

i went one time with a taxi to the airport from Double Tree.
There was a traffic jam and cost me 1,5 hour and 150 euro. Almost missed the flight. So i would take the train to Central Station / Airport |
Train is indeed a breeze.
|
Thanks for the tips
