What Good is Yandex?

I have over 100K lines in a server log of "YANDEX"

So I find their datacenter in the USA -- this affiliate server is in the USA also

zcat access.log.gz|cut -d'-' -f1,3 |sed 's/ - / /g' |sort -t"," -k1|egrep '100\.[0-4][0-9]'|less

zcat access.log.gz|cut -d'-' -f1,3 |sed 's/ - / /g' |sort -t"," -k1|egrep '100\.[0-4][0-9]'|wc -l
138436

138436 lines (file hits)

Code:

zcat access.log.gz|egrep '='| egrep -v 'l=|"-"'| grep 'google' |wc -l =Google        2450

zcat access.log.gz|egrep '='| egrep -v 'l=|"-"'| grep 'yahoo' |wc -l =Yahoo!        5104

zcat access.log.gz|egrep '='| egrep -v 'l=|"-"'| grep 'bing' |wc -l =Bing        9128

zcat access.log.gz|egrep '='| egrep -v 'l=|"-"'| grep 'yandex' |wc -l  =Yandex 3531

=> numbers returned far right
The answer

https://s26.postimg.org/w74lrx3m1/se...ate-domain.jpg
  1. Google can lick my balls -- this one affiliate domain of mine earned over $30,000 during the period of these stats.
  2. For reason of it being an affiliate account I can't track actual ratios of cash earning conversions between the search engines.
  3. Bing and Yahoo per referral convert maybe just a bit less than Google referrals from what I have seen in the past.
  4. Yahoo and Bing referrals are heavily weighted in favor of North America sites and traffic also.
.

So, if you are not getting any Google love you can find love elsewhere.

ps: I am the process of redeveloping this domain into Google 'mobile' standards -- hopefully the Google search will improve -- this domain was last renovated in 2010.

And your point is? :)

Barry-xlovecam 09-10-2017 10:52 AM

Fuck Google and its 'ecosystem'?
There is life after Google ;)

I am guessing Yandex is worth 1/5 or less of the majors ...

Yep i have some nice positions at bing but almost zero traffic from it, shitty position on google can bring you 10x more traffic. And also, yandex is mostly russian traffic only so no point to bother with it, better to ban it from accessing your servers.

klinton 09-11-2017 03:03 AM

not really..I had some sales from countries like Georgia, Russia etc.

How do you know they coming from there? Dont recall how NATS/ccbill shows from which country customers are coming.

klinton 09-11-2017 04:54 AM

NATS does...never used ccbill

Nothing.

Barry-xlovecam 09-11-2017 05:09 AM

If you are the seller and you cannot track customers sources and IP you are doing something wrong. You cannot pass tracking parameters (for source)?

Unfortunately, as I said above, this is for an affiliate domain. However, this sponsor will return a random subid parameter that you can set so it may be possible to include the conversion and country in the referral link programming I am doing on the new versioning of the backend. I don't deal with CCBill affiliate refferals or unsophisticates.

customer cookie -- sloppy but probably good enough.

The more people learn to get around, and depending less on, Google -- the less stressful your life will be as a webmaster. All your cookies in one basket and little diversification ...

SEM is like real high school;
Google is the blond cheerleader we all want to fuck so the competition is fierce -- so unless you are on the football team ...
Bing and Yahoo are like the plain jane girls that you can get some head from or maybe fuck.

You say that but there were referrals from Yandex and possibly some conversions -- I do not know for fact either way.

It's possible some Russian expats in the West use it and they may have Mastercard or VISA and be able to buy.

This domain blocks Baidu -- maybe it shouldn't -- but the baidu bot is a parasite hogging bandwidth. The same may be true of Baidu -- many wealthy Chinese have credit cards from Western banks they also know how to get around the firewall of China.

There are over 1 billion Indians, most worthless to us. However there are a few million that have money (disposable income) and credit cards.

Do you know, that using zcat and wc is surplus? zgrep actually should do all the work you need itself:
Code:

zgrep -e $match -ve $dont_match -c $log_file
To the patterns - I think you actually can miss some traffic or match the bots in useragent part of http request. Just sayin'.

And to the results... yahoo is actually using bing search engine, so you the mass traffic is going from bing. Is that really difference? (meaning as the majority souce in your case is bing instead of google)

Barry-xlovecam 09-11-2017 11:40 AM

You are right about zgrep. I started out with zcat to see what I wanted in the lines then just piped it into an egrep. Easier to just continue the line -- the file was only 55 meg compressed ... less typing i do like that

It doesn't matter to me what or how the search engine's suck each others cocks -- I was more interested in the search domain of the referred user. Yahoo search and Bing are not exactly the same SERPs as I remember ... In fact I was surprised by the yahoo count -- still getting action on that domain. Now that Verizon bought Yahoo it may get interesting as all the ISP typo traffic may be incoming IDK we will see.

people>search engines>referrals ? conversions

wocnom 09-11-2017 12:04 PM

Yahoo doesn't have own modern search engine.

Quote:

In 2001, the searchable index was powered by Inktomi and later was powered by Google until 2004, when Yahoo! Search became independent. On July 29, 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo! announced a deal in which Bing would henceforth power Yahoo! Search.
The most interesting in search engines situation is (at least to me) that some actual sources are pointing out, that bing has 30% share on US market at the moment. That's something...

Barry-xlovecam 09-11-2017 12:21 PM

I'll do it my way TY

Code:

zgrep -e '='  -ve 'l=|"-"' -e 'google' -c access.log.gz
2596428 <<<WTF
wc -l access.log.gz
214812 access.log.gz

zgrep -e '='  -ve 'l=|"-"' -e 'google'  access.log.gz| wc -l
2596428

zcat access.log.gz|egrep '='| egrep -v 'l=|"-"'| grep 'google' |wc -l
2450

Bing has a much better North American user base. So does Yahoo

There are differences -- otherwise hypothetically the referrals might be the same. Or, the Japan market Yahoo.jp is counting with Yahoo.com that could be a lot of the difference.

My bad. It seems that using -v negates all -e patterns and it doesn't matter about position.

officials add "big Putin's firewall" and as adult site starting receive normal traffic from Yandex, they block it. If Yandex gives traffic it good, but serious profit it not gives IMHO, for expats need to add translate in site.
