Is Rocky the perfect movie?

This movie has everything..underdog that surprises everyone.
A girl who at first is not attractive and then grows hotter and hotter.

a drunk loser, who actually does well and improved things for everyone.

an arrogant champion who loses purely because of arrogance.

a feel good story and song track that makes you feel happy while watching.

this is like a 1976 movie or something...is there something since then that compares to it?

mineistaken 09-16-2017 11:41 AM

Great for 1976 for sure.
As for all time, plenty of movies that compare, but it is tough to name names on the spot.
Thing is that 2017 level of writing is on average way better than 1975 level of writing.
I mean writing potential, since most of the movies today are crap, written at 10% potential or so :)

agree with everything except the girl, she never gets hotter because she isn't hot at all

I'd guess he means the character was supposed to be hotter, not the actress :)

It's an inspiring movie because of all the shit sly went through to film it...he even sold his dog...he is a terrible actor who gave 110% to be semi-ok in the movie...he has some sort of impairment and had to repeat some scenes hundreds of times...he purchased his dog back when rocky became a hit..the message that goes through all the movies " it's not about how hard you can hit but how much you can get hit and still keep going" is autobiographic for Stallone and his whole story is kick ass...

Adrian got less homely as the movies progressed - her character development was slow but constant. Talia Shire did a great job with her.

It was a great movie that had a little of everything. Sly had a speech impediment and couldn't get a break. He used his brains, sacrificed plenty but perseverance paid off. It was inspirational in teaching to never give up. Believe in yourself and you can go far.

The sequels were pretty bad.

I remember watching it on tv, and I went on my balcony for a cigarette break. The last five minutes of the movie I missed:(. I rented the vcr tape the next day to finish it. $1 or wait until it rang again? No brainer!

The rocky movies have a little bit of everything. Don't mind seeing 1-4 again 5 sucked and 6 (rocky balboa 2006) should never have been produced.

You must have watched a different Rocky than I did.

Rocky got the shit beat out of him and did not win the fight.

:2 cents:

Maybe you mean Rocky II. :winkwink:

The ending was perfect. It wouldn't have been the same if he won the fight. He went the distance and earned the respect of Apollo Creed. It was bizarre to think this, but I feel like he won by losing.

Same thing with the bad news bears. Interestingly both of those movies came out in 1976 which makes it impossible to say one stole from the other.

I've never seen "Rocky" ...

not sure if it's the best one, but it's one of my favorites ones

2MuchMark 09-18-2017 08:56 AM

No. This is the perfect movie.

Rocky, Perfect? No...Rocky movie Goofs, errors and fuck-ups.

The only thing it's missing is a lead actor who can act.

can't argue with that.

but Creed was surprisingly well done. It's not the same story, It's original enough not to be considered a remake, but ends up being far better than I would have ever guessed. Looking forward to the sequel.

Creed was a cookie cutter rockie movie, everything was predictable if you watched older rockies.

Found my old review of Creed:
