Is it just me or are computers slowing down?

I'm editing video this week and twice I've thrown in the towel on my newest computer and gone back to working with my older one.

The thing just moves like a snail or hangs.

BaldBastard 09-26-2017 06:33 PM

Are you treating it like a snail by doing things like running an older operating systems on it?

brassmonkey 09-26-2017 06:39 PM

Maybe your old, crinkly-ass fingers aren't getting around the keyboard like they used to.

Actually it is gay porn. It's a 60 year old 350lbs hirsuite getting his ass fucked by a 20 year old twink.

Would like to star in my next feature?

You call windows 10 an operating system???

I call it a 20gig sow... A slow sow that shoves updates down your throat, makes sure you get hit with advertising and spies on you.

Plus if it's going to hang (like it always does on my laptop) then I don't want it.

Matt 26z 09-26-2017 07:53 PM

IMO Microsoft is pushing out updates that deliberately slow down computers so that you go buy a new one (and thus they sell a new license).

It depends on many things. Without comparing feature by feature it is hard to say what the issue could be.

Processor, ram, operating system, types of drives, type of video card, video ram, etc. all come into play especially when doing something as intensive as rendering.

Yes, you may call me Captain Obvious if you wish.

I'm running Windows 10 on an old machine and not having any issues. Running three monitors on two video cards, last week I was playing Call of Duty while rendering out video while chatting on skype and watching email.

They must have got the idea from Apple, they do that like clockwork on the iPhones... :disgust

But but Windows 8 is SO much better and reliable according to OP ;)

Windows 10 is by FAR the best operating system MS ever released, if you take 3 minutes to understand it.

like get rid of any virus and malware crap you have installed before installing.. its not needed anymore. Take everything out of start up except defender

I use a 2 meg tablet running win 10 with 3dmax, photoshop and Sketchup no issues at all. Sure my beasty pc is better but the old tablet opens and edits the files no issues.

I wouldn't even consider using another operating system now.

I spent 18 months working for Microsoft MSN, I know win8 backwards... and its a pile of shit compared to 10.

Software overall is getting slower. As computers get faster, coders don't have to optimize software as much (and don't waste the time on it)

Nothing to worry about. Its just Windows 10. You know, just doing its thing. Recording everything the microphone hears. Recording everything the webcam sees. Keylogging everything you type. Passwords, proprietary code, credit card numbers. All that stuff is recorded and constantly being uploaded to servers somewhere. But its all good. All this stuff happens in the background without you having to permit it or interact with it or anything.

But its not spying. Its just, I don't know. Its just something to do, you know. Just the operating system's way of twiddling its thumbs while waiting for you to do something. Computers get bored, I guess.

And I know what you're thinking. Can't whoever owns those servers, or anyone who has access to them, snoop through all your private stuff? Well, yeah. But, why would they? Why would anyone have any interest or use for, say, your credit card number? That's the very definition of absurdity and paranoia. You're probably some crackpot conspiracy theorist.

Now if you'll excuse me, I feel like going on a shopping spree at Amazon. Have a nice day. :thumbsup

open up task manager if you want to watch it go

I stick to win7 ultimate, I still edit HD videos on my old i5, while running virtual PC and all type of shit on it, it's like 6 years old, didn't reinstall windows in years, don't have any problem with it, that computer is a goddamn hero, been pushing it to the edge for years, by converting, running bots all day on hot summer days, cpu survived a lot of 90-100C rounds... :D I bought my new PC like few months ago and haven't even started to use it for work yet, only gaming xD

MrBottomTooth 09-27-2017 04:04 AM

Make sure you're using a SSD. Night and day difference.

Paul Markham 09-27-2017 05:41 AM

The age of a computer doesn't determine the power.

2MuchMark 09-27-2017 07:37 AM

Of course your computer should be running faster.

Do this: Contact tech support of the software you are using and let them know. They will show you how to optimize your computer for the best possible performance.

^^ This ^^

I upgraded my old 2009 iMac by replacing the original HD with an SSD Drive and I was stunned at the speed improvement. If you're using a mechanical hard disk still, even a 7200 rpm one, swap it out for an SSD drive. It's the best upgrade you can possibly do.

i´ve a laptop with a video card built in and a gtx 950m. We´re having no problems with editing both photos and film at the same time, live cam running and updating websites with the footage edited, all at the same time...

however, question, how do you know when it´s using the built in or separate video card? Just curious.. as we notice no change, ever :2 cents:

pimpmaster9000 09-27-2017 05:57 PM

It could be updates sucking unprecedented cock...I fucking hate the fucking updates...also all my motherfucking origin and battlnet and fucking steam accounts suck truckloads of update cock...fuck if I want to play a mother fucking game it updates for like 20min first...I would like to strangle the developers to death because they are obviously suffocating on cock all the time anyway and it would be a mercy...mother fucking faggots...it makes me violent I just want to play the cunt game...

Fuck!!!

First I'm going to take your advice and pick up an SSD Drive. I'm doing a lot of upsampling work at this moment and that's not only labour intensive but also really hard to render.

As for the operating system,

Well I'm never going to upgrade to windows 10 and instead I'm going to switch over to Ubuntu when it's time. I just can't support this over-priced bullshit that both Microsoft and Apple push.

Barry-xlovecam 09-28-2017 06:15 AM

You have a 10 year old computer, with Windows8 bloatware, and you are complaining about processing speed? :laughing-
