Today I Nearly Blew Myself up with a Dry Ice Bomb
 

I acquired some dry ice today and thought it might be fun to put some in a sealed water bottle. I had heard the expanding gas causes the bottle to explode.
So I chucked it outside and waited.. nothing happened. I could see the bubble inside but it stopped bubbling. The bottle had expanded but I couldn't see by how much so I went to take a look.
I picked it up, the bottle had swelled a fair bit. I noticed a bit of dry ice inside and stupidly gave it a little swill.

The resulting explosion was the loudest noise I have ever heard and it damn near damaged by ear drum. Part of the bottle smashed into the side of my ear. Luckily my head was turned to the side or I might have lost an eye.

Probably won't do it again in a hurry.

That's some darwin shit... knowing it was fully pressurized... what made you think picking it up and agitating it was at all a good idea?

I'm having a hard time comprehending that a grown man actually did this. I would say it was brilliant satire, but this Smackdat, the king of writing stupid shit.

If the bottle blew up at just the right angle and his head was eviscerated, someone might eventually ask "where's Smackdat with his stupid posts?"

try something safer next time.

get in a bath full of water and drop a lb of sodium in it.

When I was a kid around 8 or so I did that with a glass jar. It blew and a piece of glass from the explosion cut thru the leather on my shoe into my ankle. My mother had to take me to the ER as it damaged flesh and bone.

Oh well, better luck next time. FWIW, I shit mine on your behalf anyway :thumbsup
