Amazon Launches ?Business Prime?

You can't stop progress ...

Amazon.com Inc. launched a Prime membership service for businesses, looking to replicate in the workplace the quick delivery of online orders that made it a go-to shopping destination for households.

Shares of industrial suppliers WW Grainger Inc. and Fastenal Co., which both sell industrial and construction supplies, fell on the news. Investors are concerned the world’s biggest online retailer will use low prices and convenience to win the suppliers’ business in the same manner it took market share from book stores, electronics stores, department stores and big-box retailers.
The marketplace picks winners and losers -- that is the American way -- isn't it?

What did you buy from Amazon this week?

I bought Puma shoes and some GU 24 base florescent light bulbs at 1/2 the price I would pay here in town. The Internet is efficiency. The time spent -- 5% of what shopping would cost in time + the mileage.

Never bought anything from Amazon. Their website is a big mess of cheap shit, so I don't even have the nerve to browse it. :1orglaugh

I tend to buy from eBay rather than Amazon as it tends to be cheaper.
Ebay, like Amazon will always be my first stop if I need something. In business I always need obscure things and the high street is useless.

I did manage to bag myself a "free" amazon prime membership though which I am making some use of.

Same, their site is indeed utter shit and local based e-shops are much better.

Not always though. I bought a book off eBay and it arrived in an Amazon box. Fly bastard.

Both ebay and Amazon need to work on the world wide delivery issues so they can service more of the world easier.

Never bought anything from Amazon. I buy what I need from the local shops. So keeping in work a local person.

Amazon lockers are great. I can get things delivered to me while I'm on the road. They only have them in the larger cities but it's very convenient.

Service in the USA is excellent. Fast free delivery with Amazon Prime. Businesses are used to ordering items and awaiting delivery -- from national or regional sellers a lot of the time. You only send personnel out 'shopping' retail purchase in an immediate need emergency. Even the mom and pop restaurant has delivery of supplies and perishables daily. Totally different type buyer ...

I think you are missing the point really. Businesses buy a lot of standardized items. A box of paper clips may vary in quality but they are still paper clips.

Industrial supplies are similar: a machine belt might vary in quality depending on the manufacturer (origin source) but it is of some standard size. Nut and bolts (fasteners) are like that too. A rubber O ring is a standardized item too -- only the quality might vary by origin.

As far as the consumer goes -- Amazon is not a replacement of Saks Fifth Avenue or Lord & Taylor -- but I doubt most of you ever patronize them (or the like). Amazon is 'mid-market' and aggregates a large selection. eBay is like a global flea market. I bought a very nice Woolrich shirt on a closeout -- something you would find at Saks Fifth Avenue or Lord & Taylor LOL bought some junk made in China too at 1/3 less that Walmart would get.
