Non US people - have you noticed banks in your country stopping offering cheque cashing services?

It seems like quite a number of European banks are no longer offering cheque cashing services.
Surely this is explainable as it is 19th century technology, but how to cash an odd cheque nowadays? Are there any online services? And are they worthy for small cheques?

I think epayments or whatever it's name it is, which is russian variant of paxum/payoneer, can receive and cash out your check.
But anyway, i haven't received check since ccbill went bananas.

Just deposit the cheque into your account like a normal person would. Isn't that what most people do?

Banks have to honor their own drafts (cheques) and cash them -- that's all they need to cash by law.

in a lot of european countries it costs a fortune to do that if they will even do that. Some cases costing up to 80 usd just to cash it. if you are getting smaller checks that doesn't really make sense.

The bank the check was issued is the only real option even in the US and even some of them won't do it if you don't have an account there. Your personal bank should if you have enough to cover it in case it bounces. The reason they don't do it is because it decreases their cash reserves..

Yes checks are pain in the ass but the banks are even worse... A lot of banks in Europe are no longer cashing in checks and some might only take checks in EUR (they won't take checks in USD/CAD). Some banks stopped issuing and cashing all kinds of checks.

Even worse situation is if you have larger amounts since then they won't even open your account because of their KYC shit...

Barry-xlovecam 11-06-2017 03:12 PM

Deposit and cash to not mean the same thing (to me anyway). If your check is out of your central bank's authority (foreign nation) -- you are fucked.

Make other arrangements.
Do business elsewhere or use bank wires and pay the price.
I didn't invent the fucked up banking system. It is what it is. All of you bellyaching will change nothing :2 cents:

Naw fuck you mybrainsaretaken: Stay the fuck out of threads about USA politics, events , etc. Foot is on the other shoe asshole :laughing-

Mine still offers it, but checks suck, I rarely get them nowadays.

Indeed. That is why I asked if there are some online options, where you get your cheque sent and they send you paypal or whatever.

Manfap 11-07-2017 02:01 AM

They'll take them, but they charge loads and you have to wait more than a month for it to clear.

Now Paxum has EFT, it's easier to get paid in paxum if possible and transfer the cash, it only takes a couple of days.

During the last 20 years I have only used one check and it was a cashier's check to buy a house :2 cents:
