Personally I'm not a fan of RT (actually I just don't watch it), but I thought that America is Land of the Free...

RT is owned by the Russian state funded by the Russian State-owned RIA Novosti news agency.

In all fairness the BBC is funded by the UK government also.

Doesn't matter who it is owned with. BBC owned by Brits, DW owned by Germans, France24 is owned by France. Have they been registered as foreign agents in the States? No.

A freedom of speech is even everybody (even is he resides outside your country) has a right for the word w/o any limitations. When you start sorting the speakers to those who you like and those who you don't like, it's not a freedom of speech. It's a dictate.

In the world, there are are milions of things happening every day. I may prepare you newspaper with such SELECTION of facts, that you will start to believe that Yeti rules this world and we all came from Mars....

some media try to report and analize (usually those have the lowest views :winkwink:), some of them seek sensation to get more money (most of them), some of the media mix facts and opinions, some are just dumb propaganda toolz (national TV in your country, national TV in my country), some are smart propaganda toolz (RT). The problem is though when these media have no other agenda than to disinformate and manipulate...And IMO RT has no other agenda like this. i really appreciate their updates on Snowden etc. when other western media was so silent, yet, their agenda is like 100 % in line with Rus government, while for example theguardian, cnn, BBC ? maybe 60-70 % in line wth their governments...
I dont watch CNN so cant say nothing about it, maybe its the same like RT, but honestly I doubt about it.

anyway, such actions are quite XX century thinking. these days we have Internet and milions of retards drooling over Alex Jones channel, UFO news and Hitler alive from guys spreading bullshit like for example wehateporn on this forum...what can you do ? its like building authority sites, some of the news outlets just work hard for it and have it...and some are just shitty

I watch CNN and Alex Jones all the time. CNN called Trump Hitler for 2 years and tried starting a race war while claiming Trump had no chance to win the Presidency based on their fake polls. Alex Jones was the complete opposite

A little off topic but related.

A lot of people seem to be confused between news reporting and editorial content.

When a station like CNN has a panel of commentators, that is usually editorial. It is their opinion. And yes, CNN will often be stacked on the left hand side of that, but that is NOT and should never be confused with news reporting.

News reporting is stating the facts, or at least the facts that are known at the time of the story. CNN, and many other outlets, do end up retracting stories at times. That is because the competition to be first to report a hot story often results in a story being reported using information that has not been very well verified.

IMHO you can usually tell a REAL news source by their willingness to retract a story in the face of new, better information. The FAKE news sources tend to hold on to the story and claim that everyone else is wrong and they are right even in the face of overwhelming information to the contrary.

In Sarettah's oh so very humble opinion:

1. People tend to confuse News Reporting (statement of facts) with Editorials (statements of opinion).

2. A REAL news source will correct their story in light of better information while a FAKE news source will not.

As about facts and propaganda, so CNN was caught on lies for one million times, but it's freely available in Russia. Just like RT in the US... yet.
