Freedom of speach in the USA

Russian network RT told to register as foreign agent in US, it says | Fox News

Personally I'm not a fan of RT (actually I just don't watch it), but I thought that America is Land of the Free...

Barry-xlovecam 11-09-2017 11:33 AM

RT is owned by the Russian state funded by the Russian State-owned RIA Novosti news agency.

In all fairness the BBC is funded by the UK government also.

NPR (US) is funded by private donations mainly

VOA is funded by the US government

Quote:

News programming produced by government-funded outlets such as Voice of America (VoA) and TV y Radio Martí will now be broadcasted to American audiences for the first time following the repeal of a law that had prohibited such content from being widely viewed within the United States.

The move, which went into effect this month, comes after Congress repealed provisions of a law that had long restricted the domestic broadcast and dissemination of government-funded news programming intended for foreign audiences.

US Americans can now see US government propaganda, Yeah!

klinton 11-09-2017 11:40 AM

honestly, I fully understand Americans. actually, better late than ever and maybe that is some kind of signal to RUS gov, like: "dont fuck with us anymore" :1orglaugh:1orglaugh
RT is a KGB tool to brainwash people and spread subversion and propaganda:1orglaugh:1orglaugh
so yeah, it definitely IS FOREIGN AGENT heheh....
No sarcasm in above statements !:winkwink:
Also, afaik, similar restrictions are in Russia for Facebook, other tech companies and maybe media..(not sure about the last ones), so...

RT reports facts. CNN reports fake news and opinions. They'll have a "panel" and it's 5 anti trumpers and 0 pro trumpers

Doesn't matter who it is owned with. BBC owned by Brits, DW owned by Germans, France24 is owned by France. Have they been registered as foreign agents in the States? No.

A freedom of speech is even everybody (even is he resides outside your country) has a right for the word w/o any limitations. When you start sorting the speakers to those who you like and those who you don't like, it's not a freedom of speech. It's a dictate.

TheRock55 11-09-2017 12:41 PM

Isn't CNN owned by a Canadien company?

Does it also include spreading of Nazism and hate ideology in your country for example ?

some media try to report and analize (usually those have the lowest views :winkwink:), some of them seek sensation to get more money (most of them), some of the media mix facts and opinions, some are just dumb propaganda toolz (national TV in your country, national TV in my country), some are smart propaganda toolz (RT). The problem is though when these media have no other agenda than to disinformate and manipulate...And IMO RT has no other agenda like this. i really appreciate their updates on Snowden etc. when other western media was so silent, yet, their agenda is like 100 % in line with Rus government, while for example theguardian, cnn, BBC ? maybe 60-70 % in line wth their governments...
I dont watch CNN so cant say nothing about it, maybe its the same like RT, but honestly I doubt about it.

anyway, such actions are quite XX century thinking. these days we have Internet and milions of retards drooling over Alex Jones channel, UFO news and Hitler alive from guys spreading bullshit like for example wehateporn on this forum...what can you do ? its like building authority sites, some of the news outlets just work hard for it and have it...and some are just shitty

I watch CNN and Alex Jones all the time. CNN called Trump Hitler for 2 years and tried starting a race war while claiming Trump had no chance to win the Presidency based on their fake polls. Alex Jones was the complete opposite

A little off topic but related.

A lot of people seem to be confused between news reporting and editorial content.

When a station like CNN has a panel of commentators, that is usually editorial. It is their opinion. And yes, CNN will often be stacked on the left hand side of that, but that is NOT and should never be confused with news reporting.

News reporting is stating the facts, or at least the facts that are known at the time of the story. CNN, and many other outlets, do end up retracting stories at times. That is because the competition to be first to report a hot story often results in a story being reported using information that has not been very well verified.

IMHO you can usually tell a REAL news source by their willingness to retract a story in the face of new, better information. The FAKE news sources tend to hold on to the story and claim that everyone else is wrong and they are right even in the face of overwhelming information to the contrary.

Cliff Notes:

In Sarettah's oh so very humble opinion:

1. People tend to confuse News Reporting (statement of facts) with Editorials (statements of opinion).

2. A REAL news source will correct their story in light of better information while a FAKE news source will not.

.

CNN and the NY Times purposely and intentionally make up stories to try and make Trump look bad...that's completely ridiculous

Trump is like a funny grotesque & parody (for me at least) of American spirit and American way, and I kind of like him:winkwink::winkwink: funny dude, funny American cowboy :D
lets give this guy little chance, why be divided...Yet, I admit that he is a populist, oh well... politicians in idiocracy....

:2 cents: + dont forget about SELECTION of reported facts. milions of things happen evey day (oh well - hundreds or thousands important), yet REPORTED are only those that are in line with an agenda of news outlet...go figure...that way you may build ANY image of the world, that entirely depends on the news outlet's agenda :winkwink::winkwink:)

Yes it does. Course if we are talking about real freedom of speech.

As about facts and propaganda, so CNN was caught on lies for one million times, but it's freely available in Russia. Just like RT in the US... yet.

Rochard 11-09-2017 02:11 PM

I do not understand the problem here. She works for the Russian government. Thus, she needs to register as a foreign agent.
