Digital Ocean vs dedicated server with SSD

why is cloud hosting like digital ocean so special ?
i mean , is nt it just a small part on their dedicated server farm, using ssd.

so my question is
isnt dedicated server with SSD same as digital ocean in terms of performance.,

why i should pay 10 times the cost of dedicated server for same RAM ? and disk .,

i know its easier to increase ram and disk on cloud, but lets say i dont need more ram and disk.

thanks.,

DO's ssd servers never fault.
your dedicated server's SSD faults every 4 years

they adding new disks and moving my data., ?
not necessarily move my data, there are filesystem that does that,

Digital Ocean always crashed on me when sending traffic to a site on them. It did 3 years ago and it did last month when I made my droplet. Get a dedicated from
mojohost or a place where SSD?s are good.

DO never only crashed 1-2 times for me., but my traffic isnt that much either.,

if theres not much difference , ill stick with dedi with ssd

I think you're asking why a "high end" VPS costs so much more than a medium to high end dedicated? Just a natural progression in the VPS pricing table, I guess. For every doubling in price, one or more of cores/RAM/disk also doubles.

One other major benefit is that a cloud VPS can be claimed at released at will. Paying $480/mo for a VPS (this is an actual product) probably isn't too smart, but if you only need it to do some heavy database crunching for a few hours a month, paying $5 per month for short usage of a mega instance is going to be much cheaper than having dedicated hw sitting idle for most of the time.

i actually have both digitalocean and dedicated servers with webair and some others (Colo-cation)

important SQL data on Digitalo, or amazon aws
heavy crunch on dedicated servers, dedi server's hd pooped out on me last year,

I also agree, DO' is not a good fit if you have 1 million hits/day , should send those hits to a dedicated server. hope this helps!

thats what i was thinking, i mean 500 bucks gets you beefed up dedicated server at reputable host, so why spend on vps

Have the best of both worlds. We offer both products.. if you compare my shopping cart to Digital Ocean's, you'll find that our SSD VPS plans "stop" where I consider they no longer make sense and a dedicated server is a better value. For some companies hybrid options such as the use of both VPS and dedicated works very well.

I modeled our SSD VPS after DO but upped the value proposition on bandwidth and matched or lowered the price. For those that require more storage, which is often case with pornographers, we also offer VPS plans with generously sized storage on physical HDDs on RAID 10s.

Starting at $10 per month for SSD or HDD VPS plans, our value proposition is hard to beat. If interested, you can use the coupon 20PCTOFFVPS to save even more. Unlike DO and others, you still benefit from our high performance network and access to additional options like management, control panels, backups, CDN integration, etc.

DO isn't real cloud, it's VPS. I can't wait to show everyone our new cloud product and object storage that's coming soon. It's a game changer!

Please feel free to email or Skype me with any questions.

Cheers,

Brad
