'lit', 'AF' and 'IKR'

Why do people who use these highly annoying trendy terms come across as total morons?

I didn't even know what the fuck it meant at first.
IKR must be the most pointless thing ever for someone to post in the history of internet. Youtube commmenters:

Commenter 1: "Wow that guy is crazy."
Commenter 2: "ikr"

"i know right"
Wow.... Thanks for the input, you mongoloid. Christ!

'Lit' is extremely retarded as well. It sounds idiotic. And 'AF'.

"wow this is lit af"
What? AF? Again it took me a while to figure out what it meant, especially because it's always spelled with lowercase letters, just like IKR. It looks like the word af.

Now these 3 terms have skyrocketed to popular online language in the last 2 years, and i can't get used to it. If you use these words yourself, congrats. You are a brainlesss follower of Youtube commenting trends from 10 year olds.

You are anal AF :1orglaugh

ikr

but honestly. teen slang has always been around and will always be there and one can't fight it without looking like a grumpy old man ;) accept it, ignore its existence and move on. in about 15 years the same people will be upset about the next generation's stupidity.

I don't like abbreviations in general. It happens on reddit a lot. It's especially annoying when someone is trying to explain something that may be new to other readers. For example in many dieting/weightloss/training subs people use abbreviations so often you can barely tell what the hell they are talking about. I understand in some cases, where a word is repeated often and can save a bit of time if it is common knowledge but people use them for too much it works against communication as a whole, the point posting in the first place.

If i came in to a weight loss thread and talked about IF, BMI's BMR's, BF%, RMR's, V02max and a million other abbreviations without context most people wouldn't know what the fuck i'm talking about, or should they.

I also don't like meaningless repetitive language, which is used all the time here unfortunately. So i'm with you on the rejection of this. Everything doesn't have to be formal, I use slang all the time, but communication still needs effort to be viable.

I am agreeing with the OP, which is me anyways.

Some abbreviations are simply worse than others. Those three makes you sound like a bimbo/bimber.

These are quality abbreviations. Sure, OP won't have much if any problems with these types.
