Toplists - Do they still work?

Toplists used to be what everyone used to move traffic around, at least the amateur solo girl sites used to do it with success. I haven't seen one in a long time.

Anyone still maintain a toplist?

TheDynasty 11-27-2017 12:15 PM

a lot of people still have these sites so im sure they are still doing good.

I'm sure they would still have their place, though I think they'd have to be quite a bit different than they were back in the day.

Blogs still make use of blogrolls, for example. That could be quite toplist-able.

Milkman and others still have prominent toplists right at the top of their sites.

thank you Chris. I had just created a thread asking for traffic to my blog, a toplist would be ideal...

I remember using these for my first sites back in 06. A banners page for link back, how fantastic. Now just for some links or urls to some if anyone knows of any still :thumbsup

That just shows that the site's making enough to renew the domain. It doesn't mean that its making enough to grow.

If someone's starting a new venture, they don't simply want to earn a profit, they want to earn a large profit. A large profit requires sustained growth over time.

IMO, he/she will need a better strategy than top lists.

The whole structure of the Internet has changed ... It's all about influence silos and the interaction between them.

When is the last time you browsed an Internet directory or used a link list?

Precisely what I was getting at above. If you're a surfer and you follow a particular blogger or 'influencer' and that person assembled a list of "My BFF's Sites," then you've got something.

The idea of a toplist is still valid. But to succeed, it would have to be different than they used to be.

They still work, they're just in a different format then they used to be. Now they all look like theporndude.com and so forth

PornDude 11-28-2017 02:58 AM

Sorry, what is a top-list? A list where sites/banners are sorted by fake referral hits?

3xmedia 11-28-2017 07:28 AM

sorry, it's not 1997 anymore.

I read “toilets” in your thread title. If it's indeed toilets, yes they do work.

For sure the traditional toplists of days gone by won't be effective like they used to be, I agree what you and others are saying about that. I was just wondering because I have a pretty good domain that could be used for one.

a thumb toplist will work :2 cents::2 cents:

At the moment I´m not in contact with that guy, but two years ago I was chatting with a German webmaster who has a toplist with some affiliate dating projects, and some PPL whitelabel domains on it, all German. He always bought traffic via clickadu or plugrush for $ 20 - 30 a day. On good days he earned $ 150 with his leads and revshare offers. The ROI wasn´t that bad I guess. He made some thousands a month with his list.

So, somehow there are ways to monetize a toplist...

A Toplist should not be your main focus as people use search engines more now than top lists. But a Toplist should definitely be a part of your overall traffic strategy for linking purposes alone (all your traffic sites linked).
