Have youtube commercials always been that crappy?

I remember it seemed for a long time most of the commercials were for Geico Insurance or Google Chrome.

I have adblock so I never see any commercials. That said though, when I have occasionally used a different browser without adblock, youtube almost becomes unwatchable or me.

Makes sense. I have been searching for javascript videos. I guess treehouse and wix commercial threshold for ads to my ip have been exhausted.
