Ledger Nano S - Do you recommend?

Just wondered what people thought of the Nano S ? Only looking to securely store a couple if coins offline - It's not for multi currencies or any extra fancy use.

My main concern was how to know that the device is secure (Untampered with) when it arrives?

I found this: https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/...-of-my-Nano-S- But it involves taking the thing to bits, and I dont really wanna do that...

basically if a few people say they have one and its OK, then thats good enough for me to place an order.

It also means that if I need a bit of help on the initial setup and transfer from coinbase, I can ask here and get a reply.

Thanks guys :)

Really thought that with all the bitcoin peeps on here, people would be using hard wallets? Or at least have opinions on them?

If you loose it, you are in trouble, it's a little hardware so that's the downside of it.

I use Trezor, but Nano is a good hardware wallet as well. It will come with instructions for you to determine that it has not been tampered with. No worries.

I have ordered one for myself (waiting for it). I know the CEO, Eric, a french visionary entrepreneur and you can trust him.

Thanks guys. I guess that for just leaving a couple of coins on coinbase is no real big deal. I guess if they were to REALLY shoot up exponentially, then it might be worth it. Thanks

I'm using Ledger Blue. Very nice ;-)

Maybe have a look at paper wallets too. Basically just a backup of a private key. You can send funds to the address without ever having the private key actually used by a client (until it's needed)

If you loose it, you have always your recovery seed (24 random words on paper). With this seed you can recover your hardware wallet (a new one).
A hardware wallet is very safe.

I tried to buy one yesterday using Bitcoin. It's not going too well.
I am using Electrum but it says low fee and as a result I don't think I will ever see my Nano.

Not sure what to do now.

The ledger works fine, just make sure to follow all security precautions.
