DUPONT, Wash. -- An Amtrak train has derailed on an overpass in Washington state, with at least two train cars falling onto the highway below. Authorities say multiple fatalities and injuries have been reported. At this time, all southbound lanes of traffic remain blocked on Interstate 5.

The Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted a photo of the derailment, urging motorists to avoid the area.

yep, new route for amtrak, being a higher speed train, however, the track was old and needed work :(

sadly just come to the news, the cause of the accident this morning in Birmingham was a drug dealer driving on the wrong side of the road, who was jailed last year for driving the wrong side of the dual carriage way at 120mph trying to get away from the police in a police chase :(

My step daughter is train same route but left from seattle 4hr later. She is being rerouted. What people might not understand here is that the train came off the tracks and off the tressel that crosses above interstate 5. i5 is a massive freeway spanning from Canada to Mexico. It has been closed now for many hours. There arent many alternate routes along the interstate either because Puget Sound is all water to the west and mostly farms to the east. Shitty day of travel for lots of college kids and commuters going between Seattle/Tacoma and Portland, Oregon.

Freeway is still shut down as of 8pm. There's heavy equipment trying to move the train cars. There rerouting southbound traffic through Ft. Lewis.

sadly I hear this is the second serious incident with derailment of Amtrak within the past few years, both with their high speed system turned off.

Basically the driver was speeding in a lower speed area :(

the first thing he did was trying to make this desaster to his political game calling for money for the infrastructure BUT

1. this accident happened on a newly built stretch of track
2. it happend because the speed was more than double as the allowed max speed
3. trump´s "infrastructure budget plan it is for building a wall and with a wall you will not prevent any accident like that.
