There is no debate needed. Just like every car requires a Vin number , every gun should have a serial number. If the serial number is removed or the gun doesn't have one, then it should be a mandatory jail sentence.

People that build guns even at home need to be required to have a SN# for any gun they build.

There is no debate the problem is going to stay at least till the next civil war as guns will be rather useless if shores are invaded.
