Lack of afilliate programs tracking instant stats

I have never run an affiliate program, but I have looked into it.

With all the newer options to track stats, why are so many affiliate programs behind?
Is it because updating old software is just a pain in the ass?

I've signed up with hundreds of affiliate programs, some which give me instant results when someone clicks a referral link, some wait an hour, others take days just to update link clicks. Some won't even show clicks unless I use a specific method to promote a link.

I even notice higher tier affiliate programs taking forever to track link clicks. I don't mind as long as I get paid, but it's difficult to test what works when tracking is not so great.

Just curious is all.

Most programs I work with update on an interval of some minutes or are instant.

Programs running NATS or NATS for Networks software deliver real-time stats.
