I guess certain, very loud sections of society would shout down sensible people who'd point out the error in this appointment.

She looks healthy:)

She was a doctor for 25 years, so at least more qualified than the most health ministers.

She sure knows the difference between health and sickness ...

I think it makes for some pretty hilarious optics as well but at the end of the day one doesn't need to be the best boxer to be able to train/coach/lead the best boxer. For example, would you want Tom Brady to be your doctor? He's as healthy as it gets for someone his age. Arguably physical perfection. Does that mean he would make a good health administrator? Not at all, he's nowhere near qualified for the position. I'd bet she is though.

I run into this issue from time to time myself. I know a lot about fat loss and nutrition. I've been reading on it and studying it for most of my life, but people only tend to listen to what I'm talking about when I'm in optimal shape. If i go through a phase of shitty eating or put on some weight, which seems to happen a bit more often as i get older, it gets ignored at lot more. People's visual perceptions blind them from the truth a lot I find.

Look at Canada's Minister of Immigration...That's like having a fox guarding the hen house.

It depends.

For example when people say "how can you say that smoking is bad f you smoke yourself", I do not get that logic. Smoking person can know the bad effects of smoking as much as non smoking person.

So for example she could know how to keep healthy, just is a weak person to stick to some diet/exercise herself. But she could know the principles even better than many healthy candidates to health minister position. It is very possible.

So it depends, I could not say that for sure it is a bad choice solely on the fact that she is overweight.

Probably, but again - managerial talents are needed more. If she has doctor experience + managerial talents - great. If only doctor skills, then question could be open :)
