Throwing a thousand bucks into crypto while it's low...advice?

I would be stupid not to give it a try with all of the chances in 2018 for coin values to go nuts. I know a barely just a little already, but I'd like to hear from the experienced crypto traders. What would you do with a thousand dollars as a new investor? How to get started easily?

Would it be better to get my feet wet with a smaller amount?

It was low 3-4 days ago is my advice.

Sure it was at it's lowest a few days ago, but it's still way lower than it was on Jan 6

Buy either Ethereum ETH or Bitcoin BTC and wait 2+ years.

3 out of the past 5 Sundays it's went into deep red. The other 2 were minor bump ups. Wait and see what happens later tonight / tomorrow.

Nevermind it's already dropped $200 since I posted.

Thanks for the advice on which coins to get, but what about trading platforms? What's good for a newbie? Coinbase?

Buy ETH at coinbase, transfer to poloniex or binance to buy the alts you want :)

You buy and sell with coinbase. If you want something other than ltc, eth or btc you will need to move whatever you buy to a trading site and make a trade. I prefer binance.

Personally IŽd suggest buying 300 or 400 on 4, BIT, ETH, NAGA & Ripple. RippleŽs hanging low atm, but shot up just before Christmas & NagaŽs new, already sitting 100% profit from when it began, It should do well over the coming months :thumbsup

Btw about what to buy, it kinda depends on what you believe in and if you are talking medium or long term - and I really don't think GFY is the right place to ask for advice.

But here is a list of things that I'd pick if I was throwing money in right now:

Bitcoin (20% min)
Eherium (20% min)
Stellar (10%)
Ripple (10%)
Neo
Request Network
Bread
AirSwap
Ox (ZRX)

Oh believe me I'll be doing my research in places more dedicated to the subject -- but I do know there's some guys around here who seem to know what they're talking about. Guys like you.

bitcoin may well dip again in the next few days...

I'm more of a "play it safe" investor.

Looks like the markets might be crashing now, so it might be a good time to get in.

It can take time to setup accounts on exchanges, like paxum they have to approve you so start early. By the time you're approved the prices will be up 25%...

It's hard to say if a thousand dollars is the right amount, that is personal to you. I wouldn't be more than you can afford to lose.

Avoid using shapeshift, I've lost two transactions on that site and it takes them two weeks to *start* working on fixing it...

Long term:2 cents:

SantaClause 01-21-2018 11:17 AM

Short the bitcoin.

The Porn Nerd 01-21-2018 11:33 AM

A good strategy is to take that $1000 and break it up into ten $100 bits. Then buy a $100 of Bitcoin a day over the next ten days. This evens out the dips somewhat and is better than laying down 1K all at once.

Ether is a good investment. But honestly there are so many cryptos now, with so many choices, I would stick to the established ones until you get your feet wet more.

Best of luck man! Oh - and holding long term is really the answer. Just think if you had bought BTC years ago when it was under 1K! :)

this looks decent enough with a possibility to exchange the bottom ones with whichever else ones you like. Also I would add litecoin to the top.
don't expect crazy profits but you can make nice change by the end of the year.

seeandsee 01-21-2018 11:56 AM

how much shitcoins will they make?

NakedWomenTime 01-21-2018 12:48 PM

I think Bitcoin has been in a bubble but will gradually recover and go on to further highs. Predicting when it will stop dropping and start rising again won't be easier, but that's a trend analysis issue.

I would be concerned that many of the other cryptocurrencies are extremely speculative, where people are pumping them in the hope of making quick profits and cashing out. I think Bitcoin is ahead and is likely to be the one that will prevail.

INever 01-21-2018 01:28 PM

I heard one of these coin currencies is the one the bank/gov will eventually go with. That'll be the one to bet on.
