Which South American country is bets to visit based on communicating in English?
I read you can not communicate much if you don't know Spanish/Portuguese. I like to meet people while on vacation.

Costa Rica, Cancun

Mineistaken is delusional and uninformed as always. Non Spanish speaking gringos have the highest kidnap & murder rates in South America. Hopefully he'll be smart enough to get kidnap insurance if he does travel in South America. So far Argentina and Chille are front runners :thumbsup |
if you are doing resorts and such you would probably be fine getting away with english, if you wanted to tour on your own it would be difficult for sure.
But honestly you can learn a lot of functional spanish or portuguese in a pretty short amount of time. They are far easier to learn than english by comparison. duolingo.com its free and pretty effective. |
I'm not so sure English is your best bet.

You would know basics like that if you traveled at least 5th of the countries I did. But you are left with reading scary topics about kidnapings instead :) |

I travelled around Brazil and Mexico when i didn't speak a word Spanish or Portugues. Nowadays even more easy with a translation app. You can even scan a menu and it will be translated. I rather go where most people don't speak English, less much mass tourism, more local feeling, other atmosphere. Sitting in a bar with European Top 40 music, or in a bar with a live brazilian band and mostly Brazilians. I know where will be more fun.

Now seriously, girls in Argentina tend to mystify foreigners so you'll do just fine. |

You have the point of course, but if you chat up 3-5-7 people on the street, in the bus etc and not a single one of them understand you, you may get discouraged. |

Don't worry about talking. Use a translation app, you speak in your Phone, and it will be translated. Nothing is better than to find a girl to learn you the language :) And if you want to make contact, it is better if you are only few of the internatioanl tourist, people will come to you. I have been to party's where there was no tourist, they where the best. |

In fact, if you meet a brazilian girl who speaks English the chances are she is either from a rich family (that's ok) or a "working girl". Better to find someone local. It is a wonderful country to visit. |
