Which South American country is bets to visit based on communicating in English?

I read you can not communicate much if you don't know Spanish/Portuguese. I like to meet people while on vacation.

tammix 01-22-2018 08:36 AM

Costa Rica, Cancun

1. You hate brown people.

2. You can't afford a bed.

3. English is not your native language.

Who you bullshitting?

1. Wrong random invention.
2. Wrong random invention.
3. Correct. (it is international travel language)

Acepimp 01-22-2018 09:32 AM

Probably Argentina. :2 cents:

America denied him a Visa so he thinks he's going to sneak over the border before Trump builds his wall :1orglaugh

Mineistaken is delusional and uninformed as always. Non Spanish speaking gringos have the highest kidnap & murder rates in South America.

Hopefully he'll be smart enough to get kidnap insurance if he does travel in South America.

Obvious, I just love spouting straight facts back to his random fantasies (that is why I say he is bladewire's musketeer, he "reasons" in the same "invent random things" way). It is just fun :1orglaugh

So far Argentina and Chille are front runners :thumbsup

PR_Glen 01-22-2018 11:22 AM

if you are doing resorts and such you would probably be fine getting away with english, if you wanted to tour on your own it would be difficult for sure.

But honestly you can learn a lot of functional spanish or portuguese in a pretty short amount of time. They are far easier to learn than english by comparison.

duolingo.com its free and pretty effective.

newB 01-22-2018 12:03 PM

I'm not so sure English is your best bet.

The 3rd one actually advocates for traveling and says the hype is incorrect.

He is mentally ill and delusional, pointless wasting your time to point that out every time he posts :1orglaugh
Ps: great plan of sneaking nto US from non Mexico, this cracked me up in a positive/funny way (as opposed to 99% of his random invented fantasies that are not funny) :thumbsup:1orglaugh

Only second option, for sure nowhere in the world any issues with English in international resorts :)

It is only a little cheaper if you know the language (you still pay same for food at restaurants with prices, same while using booking.com etc). Maybe you'd get better deals here and there with local language, but it is not that it breaks or makes your budget.

You would know basics like that if you traveled at least 5th of the countries I did. But you are left with reading scary topics about kidnapings instead :)

Belize, English speaking country

Tasty1 01-27-2018 12:21 AM

I travelled around Brazil and Mexico when i didn't speak a word Spanish or Portugues. Nowadays even more easy with a translation app. You can even scan a menu and it will be translated. I rather go where most people don't speak English, less much mass tourism, more local feeling, other atmosphere. Sitting in a bar with European Top 40 music, or in a bar with a live brazilian band and mostly Brazilians. I know where will be more fun.

So you say there are more tourists in Belize than in Brazil?

You have the point of course, but if you chat up 3-5-7 people on the street, in the bus etc and not a single one of them understand you, you may get discouraged.

If you look at the %, i think Belize is 30% tourist. And even 85% on the islands :) I see where there are more international tourist, there is less fun. I lived on an Island with many tourist from Argentina and Israel. At a party there where maybe a handful Brazilians and most tourist. I didn't go to those party's, completely other atmosphere. And to many young guys to compete with. Better stay where there are tourist from the country itself.

Don't worry about talking. Use a translation app, you speak in your Phone, and it will be translated. Nothing is better than to find a girl to learn you the language :) And if you want to make contact, it is better if you are only few of the internatioanl tourist, people will come to you. I have been to party's where there was no tourist, they where the best.

I agree with Bjorn here about Brazil, and I speak out of experience. I found a girl and learnt the language. :)

In fact, if you meet a brazilian girl who speaks English the chances are she is either from a rich family (that's ok) or a "working girl". Better to find someone local. It is a wonderful country to visit.
