Hmmm, usually the classic CL scam is to tell you a check is on the way and ask you to package the item and they send a shipper to pick it up right when the check arrives. By the time you figure out the check is bogus, the item has been shipped. So instead you create a package of 50 lbs of rocks so the scammer has to pay huge shipping fees and imagine his face when he opens the box. I don't know the CL paypal scam, how does it work?

Same way except he wants to pay via paypal and obviously do a charge back after. I doubt he has this amount of money sitting in a paypal account but if he does I want to take it from him :) He's offering an extra $100 for me to try lol

So after he sends the money via paypal, what does he want you to do with the item? I'm assuming he wants you to ship it, is he willing to send his own shipper? Tell him you'd rather have him handle the shipping, then you can send the box of rocks.

It can't technically be shipped. It would require a bit more work than just loading it on a truck. This is the second time in the last week in 2 different cities and 2 different items I've been contacted on by the same scammer. Both items are high dollar equipment that would require trailering... As in too large for traditional freight. But yes, make payment and have someone else pick it up..

I remember a guy on Youtube doing that...he packed an old washing machine full of bricks and had DHL pick it up. He had the nigerian scammers agree to pay the shipping. It costs them a few thousand dollars. They thought they were getting a shipment of laptop computers...think again :1orglaugh

He won't actually send you money via Paypal. After you agree to it he will email you a fake Paypal money received notification to make it appear that he did, hoping that you send him the item without logging into your Paypal account to double check. It's an old scam...

Ask him for his Paypal email address then contact Paypal and ask them to help you. If you suspect fraud they will contact the paypal customer to confirm their interest in the product you are selling. If the guy doesn't want to give it to you, then don't sell it to him.

When I have large transactions come in I'd say 50% of the time paypal puts a 24 hour hold on the funds until they can verify. I think it depends on the type of payment though.. IE credit card... rather than bank draft..

There are an almost unlimited supply of weak minded, stupid and completely gullible people out there. Many of them, in fact, equipped with a credit card - believe it or not!
