Harley-Davidson finally confirms that it is bringing its first electric motorcycle to market

https://electrek.files.wordpress.com...rip=all&w=1600

Four years after unveiling the LiveWire project, an all-electric motorcycle prototype used in the Avengers series, Harley-Davidson finally confirms that it is bringing its first electric motorcycle to market.

With its fourth-quarter results today, the company announced that “it will invest more aggressively to lead in the application of electric motorcycle technology.” The first electric motorcycle to come out of this new strategy will hit the market “within 18 months.”

Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer of Harley-Davidson, commented:

The EV motorcycle market is in its infancy today, but we believe premium Harley-Davidson electric motorcycles will help drive excitement and participation in the sport globally. As we expand our EV capabilities and commitment, we get even more excited about the role electric motorcycles will play in growing our business.”

Are you ready to ditch your stinky old noise-maker and get something as electric & cool as you are?

Why would getting rid of my wife make me cool?

The all-electric concept had only ~60 miles of range, which was lacking compared to other models already available
Yeah... that'll sell :1orglaugh

Haley Davidson bikes are known for being loud. It's something I never understood really. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a V8 engine but not the loud obnoxious sounds of old motorcycles.

I've been watching Grand Tour (is that name of the show?) and they do a lot of electric cars and they've put them up against super cars and it's.... so strange. The Lambo sounds beautiful, but the electric car doesn't make a sound.

not much point, regular motorcycles don't use a lot of gas in the first place. Despite me not being a 'loud pipes' guy I think the thought of having a silent motorcycle is suicidal.

hey Mark, show us your muscle car again. let us know how many miles per gallon you get with it.

This dude praises cannabis smoking and talks about stinky motorcycles :1orglaugh

The concept bike is 4 years old. Range is increasing all the time, and recharge time is dropping. https://electrek.co/2018/01/15/samsu...ging-capacity/

There's absolutely no need for it at all, except to feed the ego of the buyer. A shit-ton of time and money is spent on the "Exhaust note" of some cars to get "just right" - I suspect the same when it comes to Motorcycles. Some people just want that specific sound. Which is fine! It's not needed, but its what people want, so thats ok.

However that being said, I know what you mean and understand it too. I've owned all kinds of Firebirds and Camaros. One of them was a 1989 Firebird "Formula" with a V8 engine with a Carburetor as opposed to fuel injected. To me that had the nicest sound. V6's just never sounded as good.

Today though, I prefer the sound of silence.

My last muscle car was a brand new 2013 Camaro 2SS RS 1LE with a 560HP V8, and it cost me almost $400 a month in gas. Of course I didn't buy it for its economy, but since I got only about 400 kilometres on a full take full, that meant I was paying $1.00 per kilometre to drive it. Yikes.

I sold it in 2014 and bought a Chevy Volt.

The last time I put gas in my Volt was October 2017. I've driven just over 40,000 kilometres on it so far, and 37,000 of those kilometres were electric. It costs about $30 to fill it up (it's a small tank at 35 Litres (about 9.3 Gallons), which gets me about 580 kilometres on gas-only.

So just roughly, 40,000 kilometres cost me about $155 in gas, and about $185 in total electricity, or about $0.0085 per kilometre. Keep in mind though that Quebec has the cheapest rates for electricity in all Canada. Places like Ontario would cost more.

Anyway, I get the allure of a big freakin' V8. I loved them, and still do. But that's all it is, is allure. When you step on the gas the roar in your ears & rumble in your seat combine to give you a nice hard-on. But that is a really, really expensive way to get a hard-on.

I like the smell of pot. I don't like the smell of car or motor cycle exhaust. Sorry.

Then what makes you think that people who buy motorcycles consider them stinky?? Because this is the same logic..

Sorry for what? looking like an idiot? lol..

Rochard 01-31-2018 03:23 PM

Didn't I also read this morning that Harley Davidson is closing a plant and 800 people are going to lose their jobs?

I didn't say that. *I* consider them stinky. Some people like the smell of exhaust, some don't. Not me. And believe it or not, I like the smell of Skunks. Wierd. There's too much exhaust in the world, and exhaust is pollution that is warming the planet etc, so I associate the smell of exhaust with global warming, therefore I don't like the smell. Logical? Maybe, maybe not, but just an opinion.

Not trying to be logical. Just stating an opinion, that's all...

No, sorry for not clarifying what I mean. No need to get bent out of shape there, Mr. SpicyM.

Good as well.

When at least 75% of total electricity comes from green, then lets talk.
By the way with the increase of EV, total amount of energy needed will increase as well, making it even harder to reach that percentage.
