I am basically a php-mysql programmer, I can do pretty much anything with php and mysql, but SEO, SEM, etc. are not my world.
If I find someone who takes care of it in my place I would be the happiest person in the world.

links? just a few and not thousands.
mainly what is on the page counts and only that matters.
valuable texts and optimization - title, descriptions, tags h1, h2, h3
more important than links from other websites is linking inside in your own site.
Of course, back links are needed to make the bot google visit your site more often. But really, when you have 3-4 links from valuable pages, it's better than you would have 100 links from different pages not related to the topic.
