The bathing in a natural lavish spring would be a bonus... :2 cents:

Would be interesting to see how this pans out. I've been looking at Patreon for a project I've been working on.

I think it would be difficult to make a full time income from it, but it might be good for some supplemental income.

Exactly my thoughts, if you don't try it you'll never know. I've seen a lot of other channels do it so i thought why not. Gotta fill the void Youtube left, otherwise i am only losing time and money nowadays making these and that was not my intention... to think i made almost $1k a month before this censorship crap, thank you Youtube :Oh crap

There's also just making a blog with a Paypal donate button and driving traffic to it.

Yea i was already in the lowest tier due to my content but at least i made some money. Family friendly content aimed at kids makes about $3000 per million views or so if not a lot more, regular to lower tier was about $1000 per 1 million views, and my channel was $500 per million. They pretty much hated my vids from the get go.
But now after the censorship shit of last year i make about 80 bucks for a million views. It's totally preposterous.

edit: for the generated voice i use balabolka btw, the rest are voice actors and me.

Cool video. Here's the creator of Patreon talking about the monetization of fan bases in the digital age. Love this guy's energy and enthusiasm about the subject.

If you can just find your fan base -- and it doesn't need to be massive -- you can make a living.

i like how this guy was an artist himself, saw the problems with payments in the creative industry and did something about it. Great idea and great execution.

DraX 03-03-2018 06:43 AM

Holy crap, down to $80 per million views. I knew youtube enforced some rules to follow but that's ridiculous. It's just getting worse, and instead of encouraging creativity you get penalized for picking a certain theme.

Google back in the days were all about freedom, money and power changed that course.

Woulter has found his fan base, and he's in denial.

His fan base his hateful, miserable & cheap. They expect to wallow in it for free. Trying to get Woulters audience to pay in a meaningful way will be like trying to get Archie Bunker to wipe his ass. Not gonna happen.

I like the quality of Woulters toons. Every video I've watched of Woulters had something that made me laugh. Woulter is very talented, no doubt about it. Woulter is very misguided with a special twist like a seagulls broken leg.

I mentioned this in another thread, could this bring about some niche style tubes?

YouTube can be useful of course but overall I don't find it as useful as it could be. I watch a lot of Ableton Live tutorials and they are not the easiest to find. You need to search for exactly what you want, which you don't always know, and then you need to click around endlessly to find good quality tutorials. They exist, there are a lot of them, it's just difficult to find what you want or something helpful.

In this scenario, I think there could be a tube of music production tutorials by regular people and "schools" alike. Every single person hitting that tube would be the proper niche. There would then be advertising for music software, music schools, music hardware, etc. This seems like a much better value advertising route to me.

Same problem with google, unless you find a site which list all relevant info regarding your query , like top 10 browser for linux, there will be hard time to find it.

That would be ideal indeed. It is just like SEO - the better you target the audience, the higher the quality of visitors will be for that market.

Unfortunately nobody can compete with youtube at the moment, they're too big, they're simply a monopoly when it comes to getting the most people to watch your videos. All other existing alternatives haven't been able to come even close to youtube. I do believe it will happen at some point (especially when youtube continues this self destructive agenda), but we're talking years from now.

What i noticed at other mainstream tubes, how they lack in content compared to youtube, so only solution to make it work is to make better/more content.

As long as they're not like some of these other 'monetizing' sites that make all kinds of promises and you never see a dime. I got burned by one like that many years ago - and after driving a bunch of traffic to them with my original (mainstream) content for a year or two...they eventually folded without paying anyone.

Bladewire 03-18-2018 01:05 PM

I can't believe out of 7,700 views only two people have given to your patreon a full $6. Damn that's depressing. People want/expect everything to be free

King Mark 03-18-2018 01:08 PM

so now that we know you cant compete against the big boys in monetizing your free content... even with noble solutions... whats next?

And that's the other 50% of the problem, unfortunately.

nico-t 03-18-2018 03:16 PM

yep, i'm just gonna give it some time. I can still find the time to create these so i'm gonna keep on doing them, build my audience, and i have a couple of more ideas to make some money from it so we'll see how it goes!

next cartoon already in the making, this time an original short with my own characters and it's gonna be a funny one, trust me ;)

thanks! And right now i'm focusing on just jokes, without sprinkling it with politics: It's purely about is it funny or not, and less about do i want to make some sort of point as well. Pointless comedy = the funniest comedy in my opinion.

I was checking some other people on YT which also have several million views but have nothing on patreon as well. I think more sense would be to build your own site, put adsense or something similar on it, and collect ad money instead bothering with service like patreon.
