Is it good? What does it taste like? We have fake chicken and fake corn dogs made out of tofu for my kids girlfriend she's a vegan but I haven't tried them and clearly tofu cannot taste like chicken and taste like a corn dog at the same time right?

There's all sorts of tofu depending on how dry it is, it goes from like a wet custard to stuff that's hard. Tofu itself is fairly flavourless but it absorbs the flavour of what its cooked in, how you cook it totally depends on what type you have to start with

Personal fav is Agedashi tofu which uses medium soft tofu. Agedashi tofu you will find in most Japanese restaurants, very easy to make at home though, with harder tofus I tend to slice and marinate in soya and sweet chilli sauce or the likes and then bbq them.

And for fucks sake tell the girlfriend to keep off the fake chicken and fake corn dogs,.. btw watched daughter-in-law eat fake roasted Turkey for Xmas... drives me fucking insane.

So funny you say that. I got the fake chicken and fake corn dogs for her because we didn't have a lot of stuff she could eat and they've been in the freezer ever since she hasn't touched them lol

You said it very well, I agree. Some asian dishes uses tofu which taste really good but on some dishes they don't taste good. I have some friends who really don't like it, no matter how it is cooked or presented :upsidedow

Here's a great Australian/Japanese Chef? ( won masterchef so not really a chef )

In lay mans terms buy silken soft to medium tofu, dry it out a bit for a few hours in paper towels, roll in cornflour and fry, sauce is watered down soya.

Taste bland but the mixes, sauce etc will make it taste great.

you must be selling your sig.

Tofu on its own is fairly tasteless. It only gets a flavour when sauces or similar are added.

Zeiss 03-04-2018 02:31 AM

it is good. I like it.

It testes like shit (I din't try to eat shit but tofu tastes really bad). Vegans like my wife ate it. A normal man will never do that.

Paul&John 03-04-2018 03:08 AM

I met him at an XBIZ event in london in 2011 and we hung out for the evening, but I certainly didn't taste him... :2 cents:

It is cheap (it takes a little labour to make), and that is one of my favorite flavors :1orglaugh. Tofu tastes like nothingness itself, so it's a very oriental dish.

Not much for taste and the texture is fuckin nasty!

Busty2 03-04-2018 08:55 AM

Have to agree with most post here, it does taste like wet cardboard. Not sure why anyone would go to the trouble of making it taste like chili or barbecue when its easier to use the real thing probably less expensive.

I really doubt the health benefits are worth the trouble :2 cents:

You can do some really good things with tofu. It takes on the flavors it was cooked with. But most soy products have fallen into being gmos. If someone wants to avoid meat and, healthy there are much better ways. If someone wants to eat meat but be healthy, find a local, naturally fed organic source.

bns666 03-04-2018 10:05 AM

tried it, didn't like it.

BaldBastard 03-04-2018 11:21 AM

Compare tofu to potato

Not many people eat raw potato, how its cooked can totally change, texture, taste and smell. Tofu is the same, anyone saying " I don't like Tofu" is just saying I don't like how it was prepared for me or the style of tofu I had. In its most liquid form its drunk, then its more custard like, soft poached eggs right thru to well done steak texture.
