Trump escalates trade war rhetoric with threat to tax Europe-made cars
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...at-tax-eu-cars

If the E.U. wants to further increase their already massive tariffs and barriers on U.S. companies doing business there, we will simply apply a Tax on their Cars which freely pour into the U.S. They make it impossible for our cars (and more) to sell there. Big trade imbalance!

Trump does not understand international trade.

Trump thinks that because another country can make something more efficiently (cheaper) that it is a "bad deal" and that it is "unfair".

The man is very strange.

Europe recently put 17,2% - 27,9% import tax on Chinese steel.
That is to protect the market cause Chinese steel is cheap and competing with European producers.

Why are cars going to the USA without extra tax.
When people in Holland buy a german car there is at least 35% tax on it.
that is the dutch BPM tax. But the less polution (CO2) your car makes, the less BPM tax.
And that is why all german cars used fraudulent software to make their car less polute.
So the german car producers fucked the tax payer/countries and the climate.

But Trump is the bad man?

its not so much about good or bad as it is a question of can the fat ugly chick set high standards and get away with it...

You're not allowed to use logic and facts. We just want to have simplistic, bite sized propagandized headlines a child can understand, and react emotionally instead of objectively to that and be outraged. :2 cents:

That might do the EU some good, to have a common enemy they can point to so they can group against it. Maybe that will be the way they get people to forget they dumped millions of undocumented young adult male immigrants with very little chance of assimilation and very few skills on them.

This is so good for the environment. But nobody cares anymore.
they want 'green' tax, but keep producing.
Good for recycling steel, makes it more profitable.

Trump saves the planet!

If I remember correctly the Chinese steel is cheap because they get a lot of state aid for producing it, so it's unfair competition. China has been warned about it to stop that, otherwise EU will put an import tax on it.

According to this https://www.government.nl/topics/car...rcycle-tax-bpm you have to pay a BPM tax for every new car, not only for the cars coming from Germany. Sounds more like an environmental tax, so this is not really an import tax.. two different things. This one is to motivate people to buy low emission cars.

That is just an import tax that they called bpm and there is a seperate import tax also. And they lower the bpm tax a bit when you buy a clean car. That is why tax payers paid for the german fraudulent cars that poluted more than they said. Germany has a big% of the Dutch carmarket.

But now you understand why i said call that import tax "green tax" and you can fool everybody that it isn't an import tax. But in the end you pay more and that money goes to the government. And it won't be used for the environment. And the result is the same.

PS, for years there is the discussion that the dutch bpm is ellegal looking at European laws. But everytime our government agrees with the EU, except when Dutch people would profit from it. Than they try to block that EU law with tricks.

Paul&John 03-07-2018 02:28 AM

How can be there a separate import tax on anything coming from EU? (except green/environmental taxes)

Also I don't really think that cheating on the CO2 levels at VW group (lately seems like most of the car producers were doing that not only VW) was because only of the small market (don't take this as an offense) of the Netherlands.. I think they wanted to meet the mandatory EURO4, EURO5 etc levels. But yes it's still not a really nice thing to do and should have got a hefty fine from EU.

The US can't afford to keep protecting other countries, those countries have to step up and spend more on defence.

pimpmaster9000 03-07-2018 02:57 AM

there is no amount of tariffs that will protect expensive western goods and workers...YOU the consumer want cheap goods..."raising the bar for obesity" does not make your products more attractive :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

as we see with trumps dumb ass attempt at cherry picking consequences you have 2 possible options:

1) your local production suffers because of cheap imports
2) your local production suffers because of counter tariffs

there is no scenario where you get to have the cake and eat it and not get fat...thats not how life works...
