How do threads get frontpage on Reddit?
 

I currently see a thread with just 11 comments #3 on my frontpage.

i cunt a4d2 read reddit... :(

I think upvotes is what ranks it, not comments.
The amount of upvotes in a certain amount of time

eg 100 upvotes in 15 minutes will rank higher than 1000 upvotes in 4 hours

^this. It's about how hot it is ATM. Comments eventually might blow up later, but if it's very straight forward meme or image then there isn't a reason to comment. It will have massive upvotes tho. I think its also the % of Upvotes to downvotes.

I think you can buy up-votes. Ton of ads on those front page posts.
Some hide that promotion side better than others.

I remember seeing this pic on the front page once. The top comments were calling it out as an ad.

The main Reddit page is just a commercial platform now. Politics, Celebrity PR, New Products, Software. The technical subreddits are still good though.

Oh yea, Quick google search. There are too many place to buy up-votes and down-vote the competition. I have never used one of these services, but here is an example.
